It seems silly that other languages can't be learned. Maybe with insane scholarship and some kind of hard work quest type thing?

Also, if you use someone's name in another language. Maybe the room could hear, "You think you heard Hallowbrook's name in that comment."

He says, "Moradus just too lucky,
And they grab up all my vit."

Oooo...I very much like this idea. I too find it very silly that you cannot learn another language but I do believe that you should be able to hear your own name in whatever tongue is spoken. Great points.

Does anybody know of a means to get the 'says' tagline when someone speaks in, for example, prydaenese to hightlight in the same fashion as when somebody speaks in common?

It's possible, but it differs for each FE. Which FE are you using?

Configuration -> Text strings -> Strings -> New -> type in 'in Prydaenese' or whatever language -> click the colour you want -> I generally also click 'case insensitive' and 'highlight entire line' -> Apply

Randomly, as far as I know you can't get the 'says' bit to highlight differently for another language on it's own. You've got include more (like the language name) to make it unique, or you'll highlight all the 'says'.

Figure I'll track down one of my kin, have a chat with them and see what turns up.

Many thanks for your suggestions.

I very much agree with you. It'd be nice to know when people are talking about you!

But really, it just makes sense. :)

A while back there was an interesting thread about the possibilities of Learning the different languages. I was just curious as to if there was any sort of thought about it recently. As there are many In game 'inter-race' Marriages the learning of your spouses languages would be something interesting. I saw examples of both a TDP cost and also a suggestion of learning it like normal experience.

I was curious if this was going to happen at some point, of if...if ya ain't that race, ya ain't gonna know it kind of thing.

Never say never here, but when GMs snigger and try to hide their smiles it's not good prospects for the idea at hand.

This seems like a good time to submit my request of being allowed to choose a specific language at character creation. Would be a nice RP tool for those who play as being raised from infancy by an adoptive race. If you grow up with Rakash from a time before you can speak, stands to reason you'd pick it up, no?

its probably a set up binary, or
IF character = rakash THEN language = rakash + common.

Heh, that isn't binary. But I get what you're trying to say and I think you're probably right.

you would've shot your eye out anyway... (oh come on, some one had to say it)

actually, the language thing would be awesome tho. even if you spoken a broken version of the secondary language. it would come in handy for me, and really fit well.
