I'm curious, if I wanted to create an HE and/or HE with a distinct gnome flair, what suggestions would people have?

My gnome is a WM, and nuttier than squirrel poop (I just like that expression). I'm looking for gnome suggestions, with possible WM flavor, rather than 'well he's a wm so go with fire' stuff, please.

For starters, give it a mechanical feel--the more unnecessary the complexity the better. Gnomes love to tinker, but apparently even here in Elanthia not very many of us have a good grasp of what would be lastingly useful (in other words, typical of the genre). That said, give this careful consideration because gnomes are likely to recognize a few basic things as inherently mechanically unuseful (ie, pulleys on a fixed blade).

For instance, maybe there are notches cut out of the blade for more damage capability, sacrificing durability. Maybe there's a hinge set somewhere along the blade to allow the upper half to swing into place a little more forcefully.

Other possibilities might be related more to "spy technology". You probably can't do any of this stuff, but perhaps the hilt could be hollowed out for message scrolls? Maybe the entire blade could be hollowed out enough to hold a dart with the darts being stored in inset slots on the hilt, when you want to use a dart, pull one out of the hilt, put it into the hole, and then swing. Or perhaps the entire weapon disassembles and can be rearranged into some other configuration.

J'Lo, I'm a ranger.. I'd believe anything.....

a diminutive longsword with a fiery crimson blade

tap longsword:
you tap a diminutive longsword with a jet-black wolf's head hilt and detailed engravings along the crimson blade.

look longsword:
This longsword is somewhat smaller than normal. The obsidian hilt has been fashioned into the shape of a wolf's head and seamlessly blends into the fiery crimson blade etchings which depict on one side, a Gnome breathing fire at a mounted Gorbesh Raider, and on the other side, Meraud, Firulf and Kerenhappuch huddled around a seated Gnome who appears to be listening.

maybe something like that...

This was from an auction some time ago

You tap a jewel-hilted Gnomish long blade incised with a blood channel that you are holding.

A cluster of moonpearls encircling a red coral medallion is set into the blade's hilt. The coral is polished to a warm sheen and engraved with a ship, sails full with the wind.

The long blade appears to be perfectly weighted and balanced to take advantage of your keen Gnomish reflexes (and stubby little fingers).

A jewel-hilted Gnomish long blade incised with a blood channel is a light edged melee-ranged weapon.

You are certain that it could do:
fair puncture damage
low slice damage
poor impact damage

You are certain that the blade is reasonably balanced and is poorly suited to gaining extra attack power from your strength.

You are certain that the long blade is fairly sturdy, and is in pristine condition.

The long blade is made with metal.
You are certain that the long blade weighs exactly 18 stones.
You are certain that the long blade is worth exactly 687500 kronars.
Roundtime: 8 seconds.

That weapon never really struck me as being gnomish, other than being LE.

Gaudy? Yep. Gnomish? Eh.
