<<Average gestation periods, in Elanthian time:
Gor'Tog: 480 days (12 months)
Kaldar: 400 days (10 months)
Dwarf: 340 days (8.5 months)
Elf, S'Kra Mur: 320 days (8 months)
Elothean: 300 days (7.5 months)
Rakash, Human, Prydaen: 280 days (7 months)
Halfling: 200 days (5 months)
Gnome: 160 days (4 months)>>
It looks as if gestation periods were determined according to size. As I recall, from an anthropology class I took a while ago, gestation periods in all (almost all?) animals are very closely tied to life span, and have little or nothing to do with size. Infact, you can almost predict the lifespan of a species from it's gestation period.
Not that this matters so much, I guess. . .. .
Just something I thought I'd point out.

<<Just because some things are realistic, doesn't mean everything has to be "by the science book" realistic as well.>>
Right. I agree completely, and I'm glad you pointed that out. I should have.
I suppose I tried to qualify the statement with "Not that this matters so much, I guess. . . ."
When playability and realism come into conflict, I would imagine that most everyone would choose playability.

Perhaps mass would be a better word than size? Dwarves are always depicted as being short but wide and heavy. Maybe they just have more mass than the average elf? Not that I'd ever call us dense or anything...
