I was just wondering if it would be considered against policy to set up my triggers to take care of my wolf while I was afk if I were to use the SLEEP functionality and do absolutely nothing other than stand in a room with my wolf. I know its probably skirting and/or flirting with policy but figured I'd ask since I really can't see having it out as a useless baby for 40+ RL hours without losing it somehow (been trying for a while, in vain). I'd love to knock some of that time off while I'm at work or asleep if possible so that I can actually get the point of it being somewhat useful. Thanks.

The short and easy answer is yes. This would be against policy. I don't see any way to justify it as otherwise. You may not be actively gaining experience, but you are certainly "unresponsive to the gaming environment" and therefore in a position to impact or affect others' gaming experience in a negative manner.

Doing anything afk that provides a direct benefit to your character is against policy.

So afking a travel script, for example, doesn't fall under that because there is no direct benefit to being in one spot in game over another. The caveat here is that you go into sleep mode if there's climbing/swimming obstacles or somesuch you'd otherwise learn from while running it afk.

Training a wolf on the other hand would fall under that policy, because as you said: "I'd love to knock some of that time off while I'm at work or asleep if possible so that I can actually get the point of it being somewhat useful."

Ughh...This was one of those times where you already know the answer but hope someone else will tell you otherwise. Wishful thinking and what not. Oh well, thanks for the responses.

Just so you know its quite a bit more than 40 hours, in fact its much more. I actually kepet track of how many ingame hours it took and well I can say for sure mine took over 119 hours to become young. Our companion system sucks, I cannot wait for some sort of rewrite. I wast told the exact number of hours it takes by a GM but they swore me to secrecy so I am not able to tell you anything beyond what I was able to track myself.

Happy companion.

Gotta be a lot more than 40. My full grown wolf is still full grown after about 2 years, though I don't bring him out all that often.

Thanks,

And this is why I won't tough a companion until the system is fixed.

Other systems with issues that I have to use are bad enough that I don't have to bang my head against the wall for optional ones like companions and horses.

Yeah, I still don't buy this. But everyone afks travel scripts because it takes way too long.

Thought it said in the policy that travel scripts are ok to AFK?

Depends on the reason for travel. It's been stated that traveling for gain of any type is still against policy.

It does. If afking travel wasn't allowed, I don't think we'd have the insane travel times we do. That's why I don't like it as policy.

Since most of the travel times were set up before travel scripts were common, I doubt this is the case.

Since travel scripts were common on AOL, I'm going to dispute that assertion.
