Thanks for the interesting spin on things. Rangers also have the fun that there are multiple flavors of rangers, from tree huggers to hunters to those who would see the cities burn and forests rise from the ashes.

See folks! I'm NOT crazy talking to that nice willow tree I was pruning the other day! She was nice by the way. : P
Also, I can't imagine anyone choosing rangering without having a fondness for nature. I mean it isn't a guild with really strong spells quests and such. Not like the warmie guild or moonie guilds. I mean I love being a ranger and all...love making bows and such and being pack mate to a wolf, but rangering is really a middle of the road, jack/jill of all trades kind of guild. Not one one might choose and think "wow someday I'm gonna be soooo powerful!" (Once I might have thought that, but the misson of the guild seems to have changed from that so...)

We've doubled drift time by what appears to be popular opinion, although I'm not actually sure it's what you want.
We've also made a change that makes it so that as soon as you qualify for any bonus or penalty, you get more than you used to, then it ramps up slower (still same maximum). This should make areas that are only slightly wild better for bonus. However, it also makes areas slightly urban worse, due to symmetry.

I'm pretty confused, I haven't had a lot of time to test it, and well I've read a lot of posts. It also gets changed, so now I am going to need to fiddle with it some more.
So the drift occurs due to the amount of nature in the room your in, that gives a rate, but does it give a cap as well (can you only get to the worse bonus at the most city like place, and the best bonus with the most nature like place)?
Or is it just, it might be slow but your in a slightly natural setting and your moving to maximum, its just going to get to maximum after three hours?
Or am I completely lost and have no idea what is going on?

Drift amount is based on the difference in nature levels between your current bonus and where you're standing, and drifts to the nature level of where you're standing.
You can only get to worst/best bonus in a worst/best area, and being at worst bonus and standing in a best area drifts upwards faster than being at worst bonus and standing in a neutral area.

So far I like it. Of course I managed to come into it with a less-than-max bonus, so I get what I deserve. However, instead of rocketing around the bonus scale I am sort of sitting around the medium good bonus level throughout my hunt in an area that is only somewhat positive.
I think this will help out a lot.

good job and thank you for the bonus chnages, i like it.
p.s. i am saddened at all the drift QQ it is fine the way it was.

Re: Ranger Bonus 2.0 on 06/23/2010 09:39 AM CDT
So now that I have had a chance to get a feel for the updated bonus/drift, it seems fine to me. If I got one wish, it would be that the Transfer beseech, in addition to restoring some bonus, would either have its cooldown cut in half, or upon use it would stop downward movement of bonus for half an hour. I can live with things as they are, though.

I've been putting it through the paces and I am very happy with the new decay rate. It evens things out more in the wilds and the steeper drop from spending time in the city (stealing run) is relatively easy to recover from.
At 3hrs from completely tanked bonus, the recovery time is still faster than it was before.
Now to make the trip to undergondola and see how badly I fail at the branch...

And what exactly does that message mean?
I also noticed that I get this messaging in the [Ker'Leor, Gallows Woods] Geni area. This area is a maze... Isn't scout area supposed to help navigate mazes?
Also, I noticed the entrance room to the Gallows Woods (outside the premie barrier) is set to mountain cat pace, but the woods themselves are significantly lower than that. This area seems like one that should really be at mountain cat or at the higher end of wild.

If you get the message about your being detatched from your surroundings...you can use SCOUT AREA.
This message appears when there isn't anything in the area that hidden, or when there isn't any code saying to put another message there, even though there are some hidden places, exits and so forth.
So this means what? Use SCOUT AREA first to see if anything is hidden and if you get the above messaging look carefully to see if there are places hidden.
I wish the GMs would find all the places that are hidden and not coded for the SCOUT AREA message but please make it after all the really important stuff.
I must say though, SCOUT AREA has saved my butt sometimes---and killed me too.
Zinaca and her wolf, Lucky who I wish would climb up over in into the hidden places to show me where they are, instead of sitting there watching me die. : D

I should have clarified. The problem I'm having is that I can no longer use it to see hidden paths in areas that I've previously used scout area to see before, and I'd assume the new Ranger bonus is somehow involved.
Expanding on that, I've had issues in both urban and rural areas where it has blatantly failed.

Yet another thing possibly caused by bonus changes. I can't get a new wolf, even though I have no debt and am not wanted (I checked). Two other rangers tried with the same result--the pack sniffs at us disinterestedly.
Ahhh all the things our bonus secretly (possibly) affected! Oh Armifir, Zeyurn and Socharis...have fun!

It appears to work fine for me in the areas in which it was originally intended to, which would be areas with hidden things or areas of fog.
I changed the rather confusing message you get when neither of those two things is the case.

I'm not seeing it fail in areas where it should succeed, although a "mazy" area does not currently guarantee its assistance. It doesn't intend to tell you where to go, only where it is possible to go that you otherwise would not have noticed.

It is a real shame that scout area doesn't work like search does in the croc marsh. That would be a real boon to scouting.

While I intend at some point down the road to look at Scouting, I wouldn't get my hopes up about this particular request. That's specific to the area and for technical reasons I won't go into nearly impossible to duplicate or scale to another area/maze.

Rangers are not the only guild that can snipe and use dual load, if that is the player's primary interest, I would think Ranger guild would be far down their list of choices.
