Below is a log. This is with 50 mana. I tried from 15 up to 50 with same result (singular ape to control variables). No buffs up. Appraising an ape, looks like it has about 55 agil/refl, which using the equation on elanthipedia means my SvA OF is higher than it's SvA DF (unless of course equation is wrong, which is likely). 50 mana though.. single ape. Saddened. Same for 1-4 apes.
Strength : 45 Reflex : 65
Agility : 55 Charisma : 40

You also see a black ape.

You roar and draw your arms back. A dark, transparent blue glow ripples down your arms, crackling with the muted growl of a bear as it shapes itself into two large claws.
You lash out with both arms, sending a concussive wave of blue force outwards all around you!
The black ape is blasted backwards, but maintains its footing.
The bluish energy forming the claws disperses into the air after the attack.

Seems incredibly underpowered. 57 mana cast (min prep plus 15 mana harness 3 times). I couldnt knock down an already badly balanced malchata. And the RT seems to be around only 5 seconds. I never used it before, so I guess it isnt any big loss, although, with all the guilds having their get-out-of-web free card, I'm rather surprised we are the guild to lose ours...

<<It's a standard SvA spell with no penalties/bonuses, so if it's underpowered all SvA is underpowered.
If you say so. But, If you are saying someone with my stats should have trouble casting an SvA spell, being that I'm almost at the cap for SvA, then I think there is a problem with SvA, yes. However, I'm going to assume, since I dont have any trouble casting min prep HB (also an SvA spell) at malchata, I'm going to assume there is perhaps a bug or a flaw with griz claw making it not work correctly, or that it is in-fact under powered. Especially taking into account that SvA takes balance largely into consideration (the critter was badly balanced at the time), I'd say something is either wrong with the spell, or it needs a big uptweak to be usable.
Casting a max prep griz claw nets the same result as the previous 57 mana cap.
If there is a suggestion, or a test you'd like me to perform, please let me know.

Does HB get a bonus? Or BB? Because I get a rather nice web with a decent chance of falling over (or ok stun) with min prep on the same apes I'm getting a minimum success knockback with max cast. All 3 spells being SvA correct?

<<You realize Malchata can't be knocked down, and thus you'll never see anything but the lowest tier of success on them, right?
Funny, I've actually never noticed that in the long time I've been hunting them, lol. (you can even sleep them and they still arent prone, interesting). Are apes the same way then? It sounds like Yuoree is having the same problem over there.
Even with the fact that they cant be knocked over, it seems a little unfair to get the lowest tier of success. At the very least, we should be able to unbalanced them somewhat. At least in my opinion.

This spell doesn't deal with unbalance. It provides a knockback, an RT (you do get the higher RT), and a knockdown.
That's a potent package for a tier 2 AoE disabler.
Apes may very well be set to 'no knockdown'. The sad truth is that not everything in the game does very well at adhering to the 'no knockdown rule', but this spell does.

First of all. I love the spell now. It's useful and different and well its SvA AOE which provides a good disabler with swarm not working.
Now my other observations. I'd love for the min prep to be lowered if possible, and the intown thing removed. If not it is fine but its one of those things were i see ranger magic being penalized uneededly. I understand the restrictions is really about guild identity, but the way i feel right now is there is no hard set rule behind why some areas are flagged town/neutral/wild.
Anyways thanks for making grizzly claw worthwhile to have.
As for apes.
Apes seem to have about 55 ot 60's in their stats, so that might be why they're so hard to knockdown looking at your stats. At 30 mana I can knock them down just fine.
