I know there have been a few threads regarding things like golden apples and lavender, and the fanciful healing powers players used to attribute to them. (My characters used to keep a bit of lavender on hand for those pesky acid traps! What would we have done without lavender, I ask you?) I think I may finally have found a major source of this misinformation!
The Lorethew Mentor Society. (cue ominous music)
Behold, an excerpt from the Mentor society's Empath guild guide...
http://www.dm.net/~aldamus/Mentors/DragonRealms/guides/empath05.htm
"Herbs with other purported beneficial properties:
Lavender Raise vitality
Chamomile Decreases fatigue
Blue Flower Aids harnessing ability
Red Flower Decreases fatigue
Golden Apple Raises vitality"
Heh. I know they qualified it, but it was important enough to include in the guide. Not a real dig at the Mentor society, but it's an amusing indicator of how widespread these beliefs once were.

Most of the stuff on that site is way out of date or just plain wrong. We were trying to work on it piecemeal back when I was in Mentors.
