I really, really like Armifer's outline. I admire those who have the energy and committment to some of these things that I do not. I will not go switch out my inventory for a non-combat setting. I find many fascinating character flaws just too exhausting to do over the long haul. But I do appreciate it when I see folks who do have that kind of committment. In the end, from most people, I hope for consistancy and them avoiding blatently OOC 99% of the time. I ignore the occasional slip.
For years I avoided ever saying anything out loud about ranks, but I have gotten more tolerant about it in the last couple years- both with myself and with others. I think while there is an arguement to be made that mana points are more measurable, and therefore more IC, than ranks....its such a fine line that I am not convinced that either side has a real moral high ground. Both would probably be best shared in whispers, hearing either one referred to ingame doesn't unsettle my calm.
Oh and Flavius is no orphan- his dad sold him to the Monastery because he was going to make a lousy Trader. His Ma still makes great ale. No one ever asks to meet them, which is just as well, Flavius doesn't have time to go visit anyways.

Okay, so of my 3 main characters...
A S'kra who only speaks in S'kra (Peri'el told her to) so sometimes she comes across as mute because she finds it horribly exhausting to get her point across to a non s'kra. She's not an orphan. She just doesn't talk about her parents.
A Halfling who has a large (behind the scenes) family who seem to be in 'another' province all the time.
An Elf whose parents live in Horse Clan, but seem to always be hunting or something.
At one point I had a character who accidentally cut off her tongue (don't ask). That was a fun jaunt into rping a mute... because I sort of had to.
