Sitting here in the Xing gem shop watching Miryam hog all the pouches is starting to piss me off... especially since I told her as soon as I walked in that I'm real close to circling and i've been trying to get to this circle all week.

You're the same one who was whining about the empath in Theren who was buying puoches aren't you? Non-traders can't buy pouches and now even other traders cannot deal in pouches, why don't you just tell us exactly what we can do to make your gaming experience perfect, that way we won't bother with things like self interest or fun. Just write up some scripts and I'm sure everyone will be thrilled to play AkshanRealms.
Yes, that was sarcasm. I'd say more but I need to go kill stuff so I can fill a pouch for someone who's not you to sell.

Traders don't choose who gets to sell the gems. The customers who own the gems do. If all the customers want Miryam to sell their gems for whatever reason, that's not her fault. Now if she's purposely trying to hog customers by announcing every few seconds that she's selling pouches, then you have a legitimate complaint about her not being very considerate. But if everyone is just choosing her to sell their pouches, you shouldn't expect her to turn them down just because someone else is trying to sell pouches there.

Heh, wow. That got turned around more quickly than I expected. Thanks to those who read this and, because they had been on the receiving end of it before, came and sold their pouches to me soon after. You helped me achieve the goal I was trying to reach and I greatly appreciate it.
In response to the other posts...
When i'm in the gem shop and someone comes in asking if anyone will sell their gems, often i'll say yes then point to the person who hasn't sold a pouch in the longest time. Exceptions are bulk sellers I deal with often and people who whisper to me asking me to sell their pouches. In the shop earlier today when I posted what you saw above, people were coming in asking who was selling pouches and Miryam would respond before me (yes, I'm a slow typist/responder/whatever). We would both respond though.
I'm not saying that I expect to sell exactly half the pouches that come into the gem shop when there's another Trader there. By all means no, when I sit in the shop with Apu (and sometimes Madas, Veii, and a few well-known others) I expect to sell exactly 0 pouches unless they throw a pouch seller my way. If I stay it's for the socializing or a class. People have regular Traders or friends they prefer to sell their pouches with and I have such customers as much as any other Trader but I thought it was understood that people in the gem shop took turns with customers who had no such preference.
Funny the thing with Breanyaa was brought up. Whoever you are (interesting that you didn't sign your post), you should really try to find out more about a topic before you insert your two cents because that issue went a bit further than you probably know about. If you'd like to know how it got resolved so that you can post knowledgably instead of simply trying to attack me personally, well, how about you find someone that knows (me, Breanyaa, perhaps Brynnhilde, I forget who else) and ask them?
I tend to respect Apu's opinion because he's been around longer than any other Trader I know (Xip may have been around longer but i've never really talked to him). In this case, the customers were choosing her because she announced that she was selling pouches every time someone came in, not because they knew her by name or reputation.
Anyway, thank you all for your input.

I thought so as well. I was annoyed, but I was standing there while she was taking customers and, because Ahkshan isn't like that, I didn't want to be rude in front of the customers so I waited until there was a pause in the steady stream of people coming in and confronted her. I won't illustrate the entire conversation but basically I asked her if the custom of taking turns (with non-preference customers) was something she was familiar with. She was a bit rude at first then at the end she said something like "Fine then, have ALL the pouches," and left the shop and the realms.
That wasn't quite my intent, I was fine with talking to her about it but she wasn't interested.

Apu has been around for a bit of time, I respect him for his hard work and after meeting him at 2 simucons I respect him even more, even though we disagree on alot of things. Remember this though, circle =! Been around a long time.
My Trader Umatos has been around long enough to go from 16 to 36 in age, not sure how long that is but it is quite some time, 5 years or so. He was around longer than that actually as he started life as a thief and after 10 circles there left that guild and went into the more respectable Trader profession.

I've had bags around longer than Apu. just with characters in every guild I haven't focused my attention on him as much. Although he is my 2nd highest character, and he "inherited" the slot of my first ever character in the realms, who was also a trader. Its getting to be a pattern, my 3rd highest in plat is a trader as well. <1 =locksmith,2 = cleric>.
Maybe I just enjoy playing those 3 guilds the most. :-)

I knew that there were going to be some replies to that comment, once some of the older Traders noticed it :)
I haven't been playing Apu for as many years as several of the active Traders out there - I started playing Apu as my main character in September 1998. So what Canten and others are saying is partly true. But on the other hand, I'm willing to bet several hundred plat that even though they started playing before I did, I've spent MANY more hours actually playing a Trader.
Anyways, I wouldn't expect anyone out there to respect me (or anyone) simply because I started playing X years ago, or because I've played more hours than someone else, or because I am high level, or whatever. All of those don't really mean a thing when it comes to earning a person's respect.

I love you guys! You all are so funny, serious, logical, and random all at the same time. I wouldn't know what I'd do without all your personalities in the game, and especially on the boards (because I don't see some of you in game anyway.. Canten and Gossford!)

Really, there are two sides to every story. And you shouldn't be bad-mouthing Miryam unless you are gonna relate the whole story. You were rude to her as well, and she shouldn't have to turn customers away so you can circle. There are other methods of learning. Try one sometime, before you start whining. Miryam isn't around all that often, and when she is, she is a wonderful person. So she left when you asked her to stop hogging the pouches, I wouldn't stay and put up with your idiocy either.

Hmm, I politely asked her if she was aware of the custom of sharing customers in the gem shop. I didn't start yelling or glare or anything like that, didn't even pick up a rude or sarcastic tone which would be common for me. I've hung out with Miryam before and enjoyed her company which is why I was being nice to her about it. When I asked her the first time, she acted shocked that I would ask her such a question. I couldn't tell if it because she didn't understand said custom or if it was a "holier than thou" type thing. So, I asked again. Then she left.
You're right, she shouldn't have to turn away customers so I could circle, and that's not what I was asking. All I asked was that if two customers come into the gem shop that she doesn't know and there's another Trader there, that she doesn't "hog" the business of both customers. From what I understood, sharing customers was another unspoken trust among Traders, like not teaching trading. Hence the thread.

Sorry, my post was kind of harsh yesterday. I was tired, and she was upset. I am close to her, and I was completely shocked by what you said. She has a lot to deal with right now and I don't think she wants to rub anyone the wrong way. I'm sure it was an honest misunderstanding. And I appreciate the decent, intelligent post. I was expecting something senseless. I'll take my nose out of it now.
