My little plat trader is only circle 10, and she does well in Zoluren and Therengia. But in Plat, due to the very small population base theft isn't a problem so I'll let one of the local older traders offer details!

Ryeka and way too many others!

Not that much older a trader but I have made most of my plats on the routes.

Theft isn't that bad, really. I mean yeah, I have gotten hit for more than a handful of copper, but not very often ... at least not enough to really slow down the profit. Its just part of doing business, really, like caravan rental and loading fees.

Just, whatever you do, don't carry a ton of high denomination coins with no copper to cover 'em. In Zorluen, not all the thieves are high enough to pick off gems first, so the trick of carrying a pouch full of trash gems isn't really a help.

i'd also recommend against trading in shard until you have over 100 evasion and armor and such. because scripts will hang up, steeds will get to melee, and you will die. Dying is not profitable.

Hey fellow traders.

I wondered if anyone else noticed a recent slow down in the pace of thier caravans. I've been running routes in Zoluren pretty steadily while sorting out inventories and doing market research for my future galavant on the market tables. But specifically over the last 3 days I've noticed my caravan just doesn't seem to get to places as fast as it had say last week.

I have even tried to tell the caravan to go faster. But of course its at its fastest pace. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed a slower pace to their caravan? Let me know what you all think? What could possibly slow it down?

Thanks

Yeah I kept my caravan well fed. I'm very concious of that. I am testing the routes again today. I rebooted after noticing some lag on a few other programs i was running so maybe I was having lag on my machine and that was slowing me down.

only been at it about half hour so far so i'm inconclusive to whether or not that was the problem.

Make sure you are telling the caravan to go fast also. I forget to do that at times and I do notice the difference.

OH my goodness is the speed slow if you don't tell it to go fast.

I always assumed the speed was neutral if you didn't tell it to go fast. I think the downside of having it go fast is you need to feed it more, but I have never tested this. To me those few extra foraged grasses are more than worth it for that tiny burst of speed.

Thanks for all your replies. . .

Just to humor the masses I have made sure i've done all the suggested. . . making sure I told the caravan to go fast. making sure I told the caravan to go faster. making sure it was fed. . . Now I've been trading on the routes for 54 circles, so lets hope I didn't forget the basics. The strange thing is after my reboot this morning I seem to have worked out the issue my caravan seems to be getting to and from places at a much better pace, most noticeable off the ferry to leth and back to the ferry. Apparently I had a big lag problem on my side, and I'll make sure I reboot a little more often. First time this has happened on this machine.

strange it took me so long to notice the overall lag on my machine.

Thanks again friends.

Lag can affect time it takes you to input to the game to go xyz definately.

Especially since as a trader, you don't type-ahead movements "waitfor , following you." :-)

The other aspect that does affect speed (slightly, iirc an old post by godrich right) is the weight of the caravan.

The only other thing I know affected by contents is number of crates and ferry fare.

Good luck keeping your speed up though.

You might want to tell your caravan to go fast. Sometimes I have to after a crash, or after I disco.
