I might have to actually play my Trader now!

Thank you for helping make sure he never has to run a route ever.

I've been out of the game since before the stone carving system was instituted, and I'm not exactly sure what work orders are. Can someone give me a quick overview or possibly a link to where I could find more information? Also, is this a legitimate replacement for trading experience from running routes? Either way, exciting to see more options for traders! Thanks guys :)

After preliminary testing, this much anticipated change appears more awesome than I had hoped for. With hard blacksmithing orders (3 volume pure bronze sewing needles), I'm gaining 0.61% exp for each item crafted, which at ~5 minutes per item is teaching trading at just barely under the drain rate of trading. So that's very far from teaching as well as contracts or gem pouches, but MUCH better than token exp like trader shop sales. I still need to test more with more expensive materials or larger items (which should teach even better), but at first glance it doesn't seem that anyone will be circling quickly off trading exp from work orders, but that also work orders WILL likely be a viable method to circle slowly if you really hate contracts

Very awesome change!

I'm doing hard weaponsmithing work orders, careered, with acumen, and template techs, and I'm getting like 40-50% of a work orders mech experience in trading when I turn it in.

Granted, I'm a long way from Apu's numbers in either skill, but a 5-6 item work order (2HEs or 2HBs) pulls in 13-16 mindstates of trading (and nearly mindlocks my mech for that matter) at JUST under 400 ranks of trading and 320 ranks of mech.

I wanted to test this on my extremely young trader (~10th circle), but I just don't know enough about any of the crafting systems. Apu's Guide to Stonecarving is the only reason I got anywhere, but it seems like it's out of date now.

I vaguely remember seeing a script put together by someone that did blacksmithing and/or tailoring... Anyone have a link to that?

Get an instruction book, read it, study the metal or item and it will tell you what you need to do to it.

I believe there is also a epedia write up.

The system is surprisingly informative as to what needs to be done.

It's not just a matter of figuring out how the system works. I was able to make the item I was assigned, but it wasn't Exceptional. How do I know what I'll be able to make with the ranks I have? Will I ever be able to do a Hard work order without it being a Career or Hobby, and no Techs?

You can most likely make masterwork items for easy work orders without anything.
You're expected to have techs when trying to make masterwork items for challenging work orders, but if you use high purity/workability metal, mastercraft tools, and don't start doing those work orders just as you finally qualify to get them, you might be able to do without.

Yes, but right now this is only possible with blacksmithing or stonecarving.

Since the trading experience is based on difficulty of the item, would I be able to get away with doing easy work orders for the Trading experience? Assuming my ML and Trading are close.
