Just a quick question....

I've finally started playing a trader again after a long absense, and for the most part while things have changed since I last seriously played a trader, most of it was fairly easy to figure out. There was one thing, however, I've been wondering about. For the past 7+ days straight here in Plat, all three trading pits have been completely sold out of cotton, deobar oil, salt, papyrus, silk, wool, myrrh, and acanth. Most of these have been completely out for over 14+ days in all three pits.

My question is fairly simple: Is it normal for the same items to be out for such extended periods in all three pits? Even if I get a runner saying there is an influx of one of these goods in one of the areas, it still remains out.

Once any given commodity hits it, usually it either bounces back immediately, or sits there for an eternity.

Just curious. I traded a lot years ago, and don't ever remember seeing so many run out at all pits simultaneously and just stay there. If it's normal, no big deal. I just get a little leery, since Plat tends to have wierd bugs in little-used systems (at least little-used for Plat). Better to ask and be told, "nah, that's normal" than to assume it's normal and find out it's not <g>

This is very normal. Some commodities appear to stay in what I call a "low units" state. Units is the term I give to how many they currently have. You can see EXACTLY how many a pit has by attempting to buy more than they could possibly ever have... I do 1000. Even if they did have it I don't carry that kinda money on me.... you get something like this.

> order 1000 apples
The clerk nods as he checks out your order. After a moment, he looks up and says, "I'm sorry, we only have 320 bushels of apples left for sale. Better hurry -- they're going fast!"

Runners are a little funny... keep this in mind... WHAT they have to say is irrelevent. The only exception to this is that the commod mentioned at the location mentioned just had a major change away from the average. So... apples in Arthe have an average price of close to 37... so one of four things has happened to apples on that "call". Either the price is much greater than 37, much less than 37, or the units has made a drastic change. Most of the time when callers are price related I see around 40% price difference from average.

Does that mean the call was helpful? Not always. If Arthe isn't buying apples due to surplus then a price of 120 isn't going to help you anyways, becaues you can't sell... or if they have 2 bushels and the price is 10... again, useless. But keep this in mind... all commods gravitate towards average... when you see a call it means that it's likely that it could be good and worth checking out.

Back to all three pits being at the same stock level at the same time... this is also normal. It appears to be seasonal as to what the average stock level is for a pit. I haven't saved month/day in my commod info that I've collected for years, but I have started recently in TF so that info is to come as I compile it.

Hope that helps.
