Let me ask this of those reading and posting -- How many of you know the origin of the Fir Tree near the old tower? Who planted it, and why? How many times in the past has our guild devided, and reunited, how was the old tower destroyed and by whom. Those four mages were seeking unity, they found out something that would destroy the guild, and they stopped it. Here in our time, what is destroying our guild is that the youngsters have no course to follow. Gauthus tells them to work on lore and magic. Hmmm, how many things that could mean. Now if a youngster had a wise and schooled mage to turn to and say, this is what I am doing now, what do you think I should be doing, where should I hunt, what spells should I choose and why, will you watch my back while I train my bow.
Valor, honor, discipline and wisdom. These are the things that I seek out there in the wilds. These are the things which I want to pass down. As with the mages of old, our guild is once agian dividing, right now it is minimal, but I strongly feel that if we do not reunite with this apprenticeship idea, and become the brothers and sister that mages through the years have struggled to preserve, we will fall.

I like training shield. I think it is an extremely powerful, much underestimated skill and I am proud of the ranks I have accumulated. If I come to the boards singing the praises of shield usage, suggesting everyone utilize a shield it will probably generate some light debate, it might even persuade someone who otherwise would neglect this skill to train it more actively.
On the other hand, were I to decide that since I like shield that it should be shoved down the throat of every mage in the realms, regulated, monitored and scrutinized, odds are it would be met with some resistance since DR is a game and we come here to escape this sort of thing. If I were foolhardy enough to imply that pursuit of this skill should be required for circling I'd be afraid to show my face around other war mages.
I had an excellent mentor when I was a young mage. I am a very strong supporter of mentor/protege relationships ... as such, when the opportunity presents itself and I am so inclined, I will help the young in any way I can. If you enjoy mentoring and helping others, I wholeheartedly support the notion of going out and finding someone to lavash attention upon. But kindly keep such things personal as they should be rather than power tripping on an entire guild of otherwise happy mages.

I can understand where you are coming from in thinking the Guild is not this idealistic united siblinghood. However, I don't think apprenticeship will change this.
If you long for this, be like the person who was suggesting "War Mage Day" and follow through with it. Help younger mage without asking to be rewarded for it. Treat them as if they are equals. Teach them about patience and tolerance. Don't demand recognition for doing good deeds. Don't expect to get perks for doing them. I could go on and on...
There will always be those who joined the Guild to be super powerful, magic tossers who love to intimidate the young. There is nothing to be done about these sorts of people.
There are so many ways to unite the guild.

why a reward?
As I was taught, so will I teach. It's reward enough when one that asks a question, whether I can answer or not says 'thank you'.
as for teaching.... we gain ranks for that
I take pride in our guild and all those that help others, within our guild and beyond it

P.S. Shymysta thank you for all the teaching from years past and now
