Hey, all. I'm trying to research and bring together various parts of WM lore, and I was hoping someone here might have some information on something I can't find. I seem to remember an in-game book called "Lanival's Way" that doesn't seem to be around anymore. Perhaps that wasn't the title and it simply mentioned that phrase. It was focused on the idea of a code of conduct for Warrior Mages and emulating Lanival, if I recall. I can't be sure - my memories of the nineties aren't perfect. I'm wondering if it was maybe in the old guildhall before it was destroyed...
I know I'm not imagining it, as I saw a reference to it on, of all things, Meanne's Elanthipedia profile. If anyone has any information of where to find it, remembers more than I do, or maybe even has a log, I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks!

I could be wrong, but Meanne's page doesn't seem to reference a book, but a code she started. Unless she read the book and claimed the code as her own?
>Meanne decided, in her young mind, that she liked being a hero. And so she adapted what many Warrior Mages consider "Lanival's Way," which is an almost Paladin-like code of existance.
Also prob stupid advice here are the books listed on epedia Lanival page.
Books
There are several books involving Lanival. They include:
##Human Histories: Lanival's Tale, by Silvyrfrost
##An Account of the Elven Human War, by Rowan Windlyric
##The Human Clans, by Zuebara Pulan
Hope you find what you're looking for

Not sure about Lanival's Way, but the Warrior Mage guild has a few books that basically state the early Elemental Mages and later Warrior Mages were almost exactly what the Paladin guild later became, only with a focus on protecting cities and preventing harm from reaching gates rather than saving souls and upholding the law(Divine or otherwise)
Those books you can find in the Shard tower library, they're the stories of Dertalreosh enderatheala(sp? can't look it up right now) and most anything to do with Corik's ride, as well as the books on the old Citadel.
I'd be happy to answer questions about this, as this is the style which I play my Warrior Mage.
Cheers.

Didn't she stop playing a couple years ago?

That was my assumption. I haven't seen her around since I came back to the game. I was kind of hoping that if she were around she might see this.

Thanks a lot for this. I'll be sure to read those.

Yeah, but she stopped playing, but she didn't stop existing. Doesn't read the boards, though. Lucky for you, someone who knows her does; I asked her about it and it appears she got the idea from a book (Shard Histories) where it appears as a single sentence, and adapted it. It's effectively just being a Warrior Mage's version of a Paladin.
"It lies now under the hand of Alec's true daughter Kukalakai, a noble woman trained in what has been known as "the Way of Lanival", with the magic of the WarMage, but the soul of a Paladin." - https://elanthipedia.play.net/mediawiki/index.php/Shard_History
My advice to you is to build in it more. Expand the idea, maybe write your own IC book about it. Could be neat!

...so you asked why no one asked her directly, knowing she hasn't played for years, doesn't read the forums either, and most new folks don't even know who she is, only to have that as a segue into you explaining how you could ask her, instead of just saying "she meant this I ask" in the first place?
Huh.

I found out that she hasn't played for years and that she doesn't read the boards when I asked her about Lanival's Way. Don't be a turd.

It sounds like she may be making a new f2p account, and/or reactivating, and visiting the forums soon to tell you what she remembers. If not, I'll pick her brain more and let you know. You want the info on the boards or via email?

LoL - surprised she even remembers any of that.
Always take what she writes with a grain of salt... She liked to weave little bits of lore together for her ever-changing background. (When I first met her she was a homeless water mage living in Haven)
If you notice her taking up 'the Lanival Way' is followed by her joining a coven of witches...
OOC-(don't metagame) But she knew a lot of lost lore and was involved with some neat darker less-known RP events: Octa, Sithsia, Sanguine Eye's early shannigans, fishing for Merelew with Lhars, helping the Necro's with their plans during the final assault Lyras, Enef's murder of Princess Ariliana and her resulting miscarriage, and I've seen the Immortals strip her favors for blasphemy.

Hahahaha, I'd totally forgot she was there for that. Was it actually her (the character: Meanne) or was it her daughter?
In any case, I thought I mentioned it sufficiently before, but yes, the lore behind Meanne's Way of Lanival might not be in line with what whatever GM originally came up with it intended. The only tangible reference to it is that single line in a single book.
