So far I haven't really found anything that this benefits aside from alignment gain and roundtime reduction which allows you to train the skill easier.
Tested with 950 summoning vs 75 summoning. RT reduction, increase in alignment gained per summon admittance. The damage gain at 75 ranks with pathway damage up was actually noticeable.
I assume that the values are extremely behind the scenes but 40 FB hits with vs 40 FB hits without (full prep, same mana) showed little to no improvement in actual damage at 950 ranks
Summoned weapons are great, but there's no summoning skill involved. At 40 ranks a 10th circle Warmage with techs and spells will get you the same weapon as a post 150 warmage with 1k+.
Familiars use charge but there's no benefit to having any skill in it. Again, you get the same familiar regardless of rank.
I love the weapons, and I love how you can train different things to make them better. This is a great resource for all warmies and it was really well developed but it just wasn't developed in conjunction with our actual guild skill. Is there a way to make the weapons scale with summoning skill?
A 40 rank summoner needs all the techs, spells and an ingot to make the same weapon that a legendary summoner can make without any of them.
500 ranks of summoning and you can summon the elemental weapon type of the plane you're aligned to without the meta spell. At 1k ranks you can summon any weapon elemental type except your opposition alignment without the meta spells.
From 0 to X summoned weapons scale in damage with summoning skill until they're capped for their specific damage table.
I can't find a single reason to train summoning besides circling and making it easier to train more summoning. Are there plans for this that I'm ignorant of?

Guild skills for Warrior Mages, Paladins, Barbarians, Bards, and Clerics were basically mandated as a circling requirement (I suppose partly to create parity between the various guild skillsets), so you shouldn't except any of them to really do anything. There's definitely plans to develop more hooks for the skills going forward but Warrior Mages are already in a better place than most in that the skill is trainable and does anything.
Although, fir familiars take such a huge chunk of your charge that I find the roundtime reduction on admittance very helpful.
Your search-fu is pig dung!

Yes. Elemental weapons were designed as an entry level summoning ability.
There are plans for more advanced summoning applications. Nothing concrete has been posted though as far as I know.

elemental constructs that fight alongside you, and teach TM!
paeldryth got into trouble with summoning air...so how bout...elemental constructs from the plane of...METAL. cuz metals are elements and it would be cool for a top end warrior mage to be able summon a tyrium construct to guard places and do things. yea, thats the ticket, and it is given movement by electricity or air and sentience by aether.
summoned weapons are cool! i love em. Summoned shields would be cool too. and summoned armor. and summoned mounts.
with the familiars being summoned for sentience, and weapons for physical manifestation, skilled war mages could be summoning a mixture of the two.
