At least he didn't say 'Soon'. I would have made a plaster cast of my fist and thrown it at him. Really though, if it does make release at its planned time that is only a short wait! Since we have your attention in our little corner of the world do you know if our new air spell is in QC yet?

Aether Lash much? I believe Wythor once said that the reason Aether Lash is so effective against so many opponents is it does small portions of so many types of damage.

<<I have considered trashing the Warrior Mage spellbooks as they currently stand and rearranging them based on functional categories rather than element.
I have advocated this for years, primarily because it would create more elbow room in spell design by not restricting a given spell to using only one element.

The Quorum of Three met shortly after that post and decided to align with conservative elements in the Warrior Mage Guild, keeping the element-themed spellbooks.

This would be an interesting direction to go in for the warrior mage sorcery spellbook.
spells with multiple elements or elements that share qualities with multiple books, like a sandstorm. Both Earth and Air.

Re: New Spells on 07/18/2010 05:00 PM CDT
We already incorporate multi-element effects through spell synergy and spells like Magnetic Ballista.
I'd imagine you could further develop this using optional spell feats and/or Elemental Attunement if that ever comes to pass.
Really, I just prefer the clean strcuture of our spellbooks versus the mess that other guilds have. It's almost like moon mage spell progression is suppose to help the player visualize hyperspatial geometry.

The mess other guilds have will by and large be cleaned up, which is why I said that wasn't such a big deal.
The real matter was how much we wanted to support allowing Warrior Mages to freely choose to identify with only a single element. Keeping the spellbooks on element lines, the answer is "not very much."

Re: New Spells on 07/20/2010 10:15 AM CDT
It always seemed cool to me that certain elements had their specialties. Like I always viewed fire as being heavily damage based, not so much defending. Earth was a strong, solid defense with possible disabling. Wind to me signified buffs, debuffs and a fluid offense. In my eyes it was fine if certain elemental books didn't have access to the super-cool-chain-lightning TM spell, because super AOE damage wasn't really their specialty. It was ok because that particular spellbook had its own form of specialty.
Just my two cents.

New Spell for Warmie idea on 08/20/2010 07:35 AM CDT
Suggested Prerequisite Fortress of Ice.
Spell Name - Ice Dragon
Transforms the warrior mage into a flying and deadly fortress of ice.
Casting the spell covers the war mage in a sheet of ice as the spell matrixes form. This takes about a minute, as it takes a while for the spell to take full effect. Once the spell is finished forming itself around the warrior mage. The warrior mage now has new attack and defensive options.
Flight, verbs Take Off, Pick up, Land. (hover actually) removes the warrior mage from melee battle. Flapping giant wings made from transmuted ice crystals. You'll still be vulnerable to ranged weapons and spells, you can carry up to 2 allies as riders.
Ice Armor, passive. You've surrounded yourself in hard scales made from ice crystals. Depending on how much mana you poured into the spell determines how thick your ice armor is. Your ice armor is able to absorb fire damage, and deflect some damage from moonlight spells, after the fire/moon damage is exceeded then the ice armor melts away but the other ablities remain.
Tail Smash, oh you've grown a tail it seems. This tail extends all the way out to ranged, and can be used as a huge melee bashing weapon. You are still yourself though, and may find yourself quickly exhausted by using it constantly.
IF the spell ends before you land, or if you lose the concentration necessary to hold the spell you and your riders WILL plummet to the ground and take all kinds of fun falling damage.
And of course while this spell is active you can use things like dragon's breath, and other war mage spells.

Interesting perception Leilond. *jots notes*
On another note, I'm looking for ideas. I had this thought for an elemental weapon enchanting system shared by Bards and Warmies. What would warrior mages want to see in there when I make the first idea proposal to players and GM's? If you wanted to enchant weapons with elemental cantrips, some form of sentience, and/or magical powers what would they be? Would you want all damage based enchantments or would you want something more unique and interesting?

I could see this being a very mana intensive cyclic spell. I like it!

Interesting idea and it looks like you put some thought into it, but I think a few things aren't in the direction they are taking combat.
Removing one's self and others completely from melee combat without 'giving meleers at chance' is something they're trying to do away with.
The ice armor thing is something I don't know how they'd work out. I can see it bending moonlight spells away, but would they make it more vulnerable to fire since fire melts it or would they make it a protection from the heat? Since fire ball also does impact damage and ice tends to shatter under impact how would that come into play? I do think its a cool idea, but I wonder if its within the guild's scope.
Could make it a 150th ability!
Transcendents! More than meets the eye!
You laugh when you think of how funny you looked in a mirror the last time.

Re: New Spell for Warmie idea on 08/20/2010 10:12 PM CDT
You could simply fly or 'hover' a few feet in the air perhaps, and still be vulnerable to melee damage. I was thinking it would be along the lines of Fortress of Ice which protects the group from damage.
The ice armor part is meant more as damage reduction vs. fire and moon damage. (damage reduction from DnD 3.0 core systems), once you use it up it's gone, but while you have the points available your in good shape. The amount of points is based on a third of the mana used in the spell prep, since the Ice Dragon has three main abilities divided into thirds. It's not something I've seen used in DragonRealms yet, which makes bringing it into the game a point of curious interest.
I didn't really put much great thought into it, it was just something I'd thought of several months before and just now remembered to add in forums.

You've been watching way too much bleach.

But I would rather see an attack similar to halibels to tell you the truth.

If I was watching this happen in a movie it would be awesome, and it would probably have awesome messaging too, but this probably does way too much for a single spell. The three or four different functions you named all seem like they would be powerful enough to occupy their own spell slot.
I like the idea of an ice-based transformation spell though. Not in the sense it literally transforms you into an ice dragon, but an ice spell that manifests as a dragon: I am thinking something like Mark of Arhat, only with ice dragons.

I hope that at some point more offensive spells come out for the water book. I also hope that at that point they are not ice. I would love to see spells that use tidal waves to smash people.
