I recently started a new WM and I remember there was discussion about Tropicalo's methods in training. I emailed the poster and asked if they would share, but didn't get an answer.

I emailed darick@play.net (Tropicalo) and got a bounce back.

If anyone is willing to share what these methods are, I would appreciate it.

Tropicalo no longer has the same player.

The Trop method:

Step 1: Get to circle 60.

Step 2: Write a sick script.

Step 3: Run it 20 hours/day.

Step 4: Level to 150, returning to step 2 as necessary.

I'd really suggest writing your own scripts. You'll find them much easier to modify and fit to exactly what you want to do.

The key points to take from the so-called "method" are really just to train as much as you can, including hiding, shield, multi, as many weapons as possible without slowing down TM and your primary, etc.

The scripts themselves are indeed efficient. You can find some examples posted on the genie message boards (most of the best scripts out there use Genie Pro).

There really is nothing sacred about his methods though. Lots of people have written efficient WM training scripts. The people who glorify old-Tropicalo's are usually the ones who paid for them. The biggest difference maker is play time.

By the talk I read, it seemed like more than that. Oh well.

I already have a script that I am content with that just needs some tweaking so the brawling combos work how I want them. I wrote it myself for wizard, so it isn't going to be as efficient or advanced as a genie script, and I use it atk so I will make changes myself and put commands in on the fly.

>>The scripts themselves are indeed efficient. You can find some examples posted on the genie message boards (most of the best scripts out there use Genie Pro).<<

I will take a look and see if there is anything I would like to incorporate into mine.

If anyone has any advice, please let me know.

Thanks for the help everyone!

You can only see the genie boards if you have a subscription, just so you know. They wouldn't be all that valuable anyway with Wizard.

Interestingly enough the 'Trop method' has a great deal to do with a specific training mentality than anything else.

Without getting particularly technical, some key things in starting on the Trop training diet are:

Train more than one weapon.
Don't neglect your multi.
Shield AND parry for a well balanced diet.
Use your buffs and disablers whenever possible. It's better to cast Swirling Winds and have to stance down than to be stanced up and have to cast Swirling Winds.
Be a warrior mage.

Warrior Mages who don't hunt with their buffs and disablers are screwing themselves over in the long run. You will always learn better overall with them than without them, so use them.

Make sure you know what your spells do, how much mana you can put in them, and how to cast spells efficiently. I cannot stress this enough. I've seen 70+ circle rangers who simply do not understand how to cast spells without running out of mana. Many of them even had their characters longer than a few weeks.

In summary, the key to casting spells efficiently is a balance. Prep low, harness repeatedly in small doses, and your mana will last longer. If you prep a spell at 10, and harness 10 5 times, you're using a fraction of the mana that you would spend if you simpy prepped at 60. Your power perception helps determine the base rate of exchange between mana and attunement by letting you see how much mana is in the area (and, at higher ranks, drawing a bit more from adjacent rooms), but your harness skill increases the efficiency of the exchange as well as increasing your max attunement and the rate at which your attunement recovers.

Keep your mana pool relatively high, spend mana in smaller doses, and it'll last longer. If you never drain your mana to 0% attunement and instead let it regen if it falls to about 60%, you'll spend much less time waiting for mana to come back overall.

In short, the Trop training method is simply based on knowing what your stuff does and using it to best effect.

Or, if you're the new Trop, the training method is to get killed by flex zombies repeatedly.

One of my DR Pet Peeves is characters with new souls.
As to the thread, nothing seems all that remarkable about the training methods.

Basically he wrote efficient scripts and organized them so they were incredibly easy to tailor to anyone who wanted one.

As a result, lots of incompetent scritpers with high level characters paid him ridiculous amounts of plats to tailor his base script to them.

Also, dude probably had a hell of a lot of free time.

The bottom line is write your own scripts or buy enough plats to buy one from him.

It really isn't that hard to maximize your script's efficiency. Add skills to its training regimen one at a time, and if overall mind state begins to drop then stop adding new skills to your script. Its all about efficiency.

I was with you until here. Generally, adding more skills to your script keeps your mind state lower.

There is more to it than that.

I probably wasn't very clear. I mean if your overall exp seems to stay below perplexing, then you are probably trying to train too many skills.

<<There is more to it than that.

Of course there is, but I'm not about to write a scripting tutorial. People are better off learning by doing.
