Is it at all worth it for a War Mage to train Devices past 200? I'm coming up on 180 so I can charge cambrinth while I'm wearing it, but is there anything else after that?

I understand MD is useful for shaping fire-rain clouds and loading magnetic ballistae.

I heard that power perception stops getting better at around 900 ranks...any truth to that?

And what about MD? Aside from getting the 250th rank for shaping some pyroclastic goodness...is there any benefit to training it higher?

Sure it helps with circling...but who wants to be a 70th mage with 400 primary AND MD?

I may be wrong, but I think it only scales to 540 for the room based mana types.

There are a few devices out there that take advantage of high MD, but they aren't terribly useful for us. They hope to expand it so that more devices take high MD to activate when enchanting is released.

General magic is probably not going to be an issue for circling in this guild.

Moon Mages. I don't see why not, though. It's easy to train MD while training PM, so you might as well.

Yep, 540 for non moon mages, 900~ for always above blazing? Something like that, also you'll want more than 250 for fire rain, more like 400, I mean, it always has a chance to slip no matter what your skill, but the chance goes down to a certain point, and yeah, enchanting eventually.

Thanks!

General magic always holds me back though. I hunt ALOT. I'll keep plugging away. 540 PP isn't alot though...more than halfway there already. I can understand how they kinda had to leap up in the beginning...for the new casters, but they should think about some nifty bonuses for people past that.

Automatic room messaging comes to mind. Could scale the accuracy from completely off-base to 'I'm so good, I scare myself.' You wouldn't even have to make it a training aid...just nifty bells and whistles.

[The Room]
You see things indicative of a room.
You make a quick check of the power streams in the area, finding them VERY crappy.
Exits: North.

You reach out with that lump three feet above your rump and see some mildy crappy mana streams.

At least thats one less thing I have to train after 540. I'm a wretched multi-tasker.

I haven't needed anything other than general magic for a long time. I tend to neglect non-TM magics since they do functionally nothing for me.

I guess it also depends on how you train your TM. If you use a higher tier spell, you should be learning PM and HA along side TM in combat. And that very small amount of PP you get for casting TM spells.

You can get consistently good mana before 900 ranks as a moon mage. However, even blinding mana is a range, and as far as I know there's no upper limit. PP for moon mages is the one of the few skills that basically scales all the way to 2000 ranks well.

It's not the PM and Harness that are the problems. MD becomes increasingly hard to learn and takes a huge chunk of time. PP also becomes a fairly big chore eventually too. Compound that with combat intensive play styles like Redeth, Sephos, and myself and general magic is most certainly going to become an issue.

Even if you don't stay in combat for huge amounts of time I'm sure it will eventually become an issue regardless. We need a ton of magic.

Don't stop working MD or PP - ever. It doesn't matter if the benefits stop coming, you have to. We don't know what the future holds anyways.

Also the higher tier TM teachers cap out eventually too. My harness flys easily, but I'm always having PM issues, because I don't want to stand around and snap cambrinth for 10 minutes trying to lock with MAB/EAS. I've been trying to figure out the trick with MOA lately, cause it's suppose to teach very high. It's not exactly glorious like CL was though.

Anyways, my point is don't stop training MD and PP, Redeth.
