Amazing idea, but would definitely appreciate an example given. So far I've tried everything I can think of but can't get the armoire to do anything. Attempting to put an item directly into or onto it results in this message: Due to the magical nature of the armoire, maybe it'd be best if you let it handle your items directly?
Analyze has no information other than light/deep. Would it be possible to get the proper verbs attached to that?
Can't wait to see how this works!

For anyone else who was having trouble, the armoires have been updated for use with ANALYZE:
You may set the armoire to automatically dress/undress you. To do this, you must first set it to store specific items. You do this by POINTing the armoire AT the item. Doing it a second time, will remove the item's reserved spot. You may then SEARCH the armoire to see which items you have saved a spot for. To dress/undress, simply OPEN the armoire. You may also CLEAN the armoire to reset all previously saved items. If any of the saved items have their description (short or long) altered, you must resave it to the armoire. Once an item is set, another player may not use it until it has been CLEANed.
Thanks Wyrom for the quick fix!

First off, these armoires are amazing. I LOVE the idea and the execution is perfect. Bravo!!
Two things I noticed: First, when I OPENed the armoire, a few things had some message bugginess:
>>A $_playful penguin pin$_ dancing on a block of quartz ice was no longer found on your person, removing the previously saved spot for it in your armoire.
>>A $_mithglin and onyx ankle chain$_ set with small round bells was no longer found on your person, removing the previously saved spot for it in your armoire.
>>A blue sapphire rearing mule pin was no longer found on your person, removing the previously saved spot for it in your armoire.
>>A $_black leather weapon harness$_ covered in straps and buckles was no longer found on your person, removing the previously saved spot for it in your armoire.
Second, the armoire doesn't appear to work with player cobbled shoes. Any chance of having this looked at, because ... much sadness for the Imelda Marcos of Elanthia!

Both of these issues should now be resolved. In the case of scripted items (like the cobbled boots), the armoires won't work with any such item that does anything special when worn or removed (which may or may not be visible to the player). However, I'm willing to investigate this on a case by case basis, so if anyone has an item that won't work with the armoire, let me know and I'll investigate. I can't promise to make it always work, but I will try my best.

These are really great. Thanks for the release!
The armoires also don't work with the following, if these can be looked into:
- the AG badge
- armor concealers
- hair baubles
Finally, must they weigh 5 lbs each? Since the whole thing is magical and they can't be worn, it makes it a bit heavy to carry around for the purpose of sorting items. It would be great if the weight could be reconsidered.

They should now work with the Adventure's Guild badges (when not hidden). They cannot work with armor concealers, as those perfectly illustrate some things that take place when the item is normally worn/removed (hiding/unhiding armor). They cannot work with the hair baubles since those are hidden when worn. Their weight is pretty good at 5 lbs, but they can be lightened to 3 lbs.

Thanks for the badge fix and the prompt response. I see that SEARCH tells you what items are saved to the armoire, but I was wondering if there's any way to tell whether the armoire has those contents in it without opening it, since OPEN obviously activates the script. This would be handy if one had multiple armoires.
Also, do GM Jainna's labels work on these?

For the curious:
You need to be wearing your items and then POINT your armoire at each item you want the armoire to save. Then OPEN is an instant on/off script that either stores your worn items in the armoire or puts them on for you. The armoire and its contents take up the same space in the locker as individually.

Inspect seems to be broken on the armoire.
>analyze my armoire
You analyze your dark wooden armoire and sense that the item is largely free from merchant alteration restrictions.
The creator has also provided the following information:
You may set the armoire to automatically dress/undress you. To do this, you must first set it to store specific items. You do this by POINTing the armoire AT the item. Doing it a second time, will remove the item's reserved spot. You may then SEARCH the armoire to see which items you have saved a spot for. To dress/undress, simply OPEN the armoire. Erm ... one more eensy little trouble with the armoire:
If you point the armoire at two pairs of shoes (assuming that you wanted to switch between them upon opening), or any other article of clothing including containers, armors, etc., and if you somehow get both items INTO the armoire, it will cheerfully put them all on you at once. I was at one point wearing 2 pairs of shoes, 2 cloaks, and I can't count how many shoulder containers. Just a heads' up!

Could fusion armor be made to work with them? As well as voln/ithzir? |
They were already working with ithzir armor and should now also with fusion armor. Unfortunately, they won't be able to work with Voln armor.
Also, there was a bug where items hidden by the griffin pins would cause the armoires to remove their saved setting for those items. This should now be resolved. The armoires won't remove hidden items, but it shouldn't cause the setting to be removed (so next time if you want to include the item, you can just unhide it first).

Re: Magical Armoires on 01/25/2015 12:19 AM CST
I'll preface with the fact that I haven't tried these. So please correct me on any functional points I may have wrong.
Is there any way we could get the weight reduced to the <1lb mark? The weight makes the armoires a non-starter for me and I've heard others express the same sentiment.
I see two real use cases:
(1) Easily changing outfits (for fashionistas)
(2) Easily wearing/removing enhancives (mostly for high-enders)
While the armoire is a convenience item in case (1) and doesn't provide a real compelling argument regarding weight, it seems like the main purpose in case (2) is simply to reduce screen scroll for other players. This is a huge point of courtesy to some and players often rail against the practice of swapping out a full set of enhancives in front of other players. I make a best effort to comply with this courtesy and I'd be content in spending the 25k BPs to get an armoire to make my best effort even better. But as is, I only see a penalty for using them. Currently, I use a script to manage my enhancives. It's just as convenient, is totally reliable, and doesn't result in weight penalties.
If it could be worn, I could see the argument for a mechanical benefit since it would be a functional container. But as-is, it needs to end up in another container anyway. By contrast, there's a reasonable argument for a box/chest/coffer/strongbox/trunk to have a weight because, while hunting, you're making an opportunity cost for the chance at some better loot by picking the box up. There is, indeed, a benefit trade-off.
In a game where weight and encumbrance is so mechanically central to gameplay, should "quality of life" releases like this, which have no mechanical benefit, be a mechanical trade-off? It's a great idea as a convenience but it's also a great feature to reduce player-player tension and increase general courteousness. It just misses the mark a bit because it presents a persistent cost for the person being courteous.

Re: Magical Armoires on 01/25/2015 03:16 AM CST
It would be less than ideal for enhancives as there are plenty of items people like to wear identical copies of like those 3 identical beltworn talismans, 2 bolt pins, 2 wrist guards, all of which would not function with the armoire due to having identical descriptions.
I mean I guess you could dye them or something just to make it work with the armoire... but that's a workaround.
As for changing outfits, the armoire does not reduce any weight so if you carry a bunch of outfits it's going to mechanically penalize you anyways due to the extra clothing weight. If you put the armoire in your locker, there is no benefit as you can just use a script to change clothing. The armoire just saves you the time it takes to write the script.

Re: Magical Armoires - Bug? on 01/25/2015 11:59 AM CST
I just bugged this in game but my Armoire is no longer functioning. It is no longer dressing/undressing my reserved items. Likewise, even though I'm already wearing my reserved items the game still displys the third person messaging "xxxxx opens his dark wooden armoire, then suddenly several articles of clothing fly out of armoire and onto him". However, I do not get any messaging and the armoire will automatically slam shut after a few moments unless I manually close it first. I have cleaned the armoire and reserved all of my items again and it has not fixed the problem
Havent said this yet but I do enjoy using these items so I hope it is an easy fix

Re: Magical Armoires on 01/25/2015 01:21 PM CST
Couple thoughts
The armoire is a non-advantage item bought with 25k bp, with a weight of 5lb. Yes it can be lightened, but adding another 3 to 5lb encumbrance to replicate what I do with a script to remove my combat enhancives and wear resting logic enhancives seems not in my characters interest.
The armoire also only removes one set and will put that one set back on. Any it does not see for example it removes from its preset. Irritating.
That is fine. But if I am taking off a bunch of things, would I not want to put others on?
I think the armoire could be improved by having three drawers. Weightless armoire. Perhaps paying an additional 25bp to add another drawer?
combat gear on/off
logic gear on/off
dress set on/off
I could buy 3 armoires, yes, but now we are talking adding 15lb to reduce screen scroll for others.
I also noticed that if we are using the gold griffin pin to hide our enhancives and use the armoire, it does not see them and so removes them from its preset memory. Really irritating re point over and over if you for get to unhide them.
This would be a great tool. But why are we penalized (encumbrance) for trying to reduce screen scroll?
Thank you
John

Re: Magical Armoires on 01/25/2015 01:52 PM CST
Would it also be possible to insert/remove items from specific slots in the armoire? Due to the properties/scripts on certain items (simplest example: hidden badges), it becomes irritating having to reset everything if you forget to "prep" (i.e. pull the badge back out) the item. If I could shove that item back into "slot 5", it would prevent me from having to reset the entire thing.
Furthermore, would it be possible to take singular items out of the armoire while it's holding our attire? I'd hate for an item I want to be "stuck" in the armoire unless I pull out the entire outfit again. This again also ruins the set order in the armoire if I put everything but that one item back into the armoire.
I absolutely love this item, and I would love to see it become as effective as it can be.

It's a fluff prop. It's not meant to offer any advantage. It's like the thousands of other items in the game that offer no mechanical benefit, yet still weigh something. 3 lbs is more than manageable. Saying 3 lbs is too much is like saying your character would refuse to pick up 480 silver from a creature.

Armoires will now work with items that share the exact same description. You only need to set one item and any other item that matches its description will also be worn/removed from you when you open the armoire.
You can now PROD the armoire, which will cause it to go dormant. This will allow you to open the armoire without it trying to dress/undress you. Prod it again to turn it back on. This replaces the previous PEER verb, since you can now just open the armoire, then look inside.

>I'm not sure what you mean by this. Can you provide an example?
It looks like the armoires were updated to half solve the problem I suggested. Prior, when the armoire tried to pull an item off that it couldn't (a hidden adventurer's badge), it would clear that item from the list in the armoire. After trying it just now, the armoire did not clear my badge from its list. Very cool.
For the rest of what I was attempting to say, take this for example.
Your search through your dark wooden armoire and note you have reserved spots for the following items:
a dark crimson pierced-heart symbol
a burnished imflass medallion
a flowing white silk cloak
an eahnor-bound fireleaf badge

Say I want to put a pendant between the medallion and the cloak. Is it possible to update the armoires so that I could do this? Like: "PUT MY pendant IN MY armoire AFTER medallion", or some such syntax. It would also be cool if we could remove items from their positions without having to reset the whole list. This way, we can update the list more easily should we wish to alter it slightly or correct it.
Make sense?

It looks like the armoires were updated to half solve the problem I suggested. Prior, when the armoire tried to pull an item off that it couldn't (a hidden adventurer's badge), it would clear that item from the list in the armoire. After trying it just now, the armoire did not clear my badge from its list. Very cool.
For the rest of what I was attempting to say, take this for example.
Your search through your dark wooden armoire and note you have reserved spots for the following items:
a dark crimson pierced-heart symbol
a burnished imflass medallion
a flowing white silk cloak
an eahnor-bound fireleaf badge
a laje-hued samite surcoat

The armoire seems like it has some awesome potential, but I haven't purchased one yet. I have altered all of my enhancives to wear at all times but I haven't purchased enhancive pauses yet either. I'll continue to use my enhancive script for now, but may pick up one of these boxes to study at some point.
If you use one of these armoires, will it swap armor worn with armor kept in the armoire? Will it swap any worn items with items that conflict with worn locations of armoire held items?
In response to Estild's, "Saying 3 lbs is too much is like saying your character would refuse to pick up 480 silver from a creature." I urge look at silver coin piles in many hunting grounds for those who do refuse to pick up 480 silvers. Also, they have to be lightened twice, two services, to bring them from 5 to 3lbs.

I guess that really strikes at the point exactly. There is nothing that precludes the weight from being <1lb other than the fact that some other things aren't. Being that it's code, rather than the laws of physics, we have the opportunity to appeal for reasonable revisions. It's an unnecessary penalty that someone has to weigh out. If it's just a fluff item, why does it need to have a mechanical penalty? We have the opportunity to make a good item into a GREAT item which has universal appeal and the choice is to argue against it with "give me a break!"
By the way, 480 coins may well put me into an encumbered state when in my base gear (all max lightened, no redundant herb bundles, 0.5lb cloak, etc). I have a spreadsheet with the weight of every item I have tabled out and added up. A 3lb armoire would tie my heaviest non-armor gear. I find myself debating the merits of carrying around a single charged small statue (2lbs) and haphip root (the only herb of the 14 foragables which doesn't weigh 0.5lbs in a bundle). That's halfling style.
As was raised earlier, these armoires present a great opportunity to reduce enhancive screen scroll for others. It could be a brilliant improvement towards gameplay that's more courteous.

Without being able to see the roll on creature maneuvers it's hard to make a definitive case on small races.
But I agree that encumberence in general could use a review. The weights of many, many things should be lower for both realism and player enjoyment. (I have a 5lbs pair of pants, are there rocks sewn into the seams or what?)

For this and the enhancive pause stuff, the motivating factor for implementation had nothing to do with the relatively minor screen scroll involved in scripted taking on/off items. Players started making scripts to eke out an extra bit of value for their enhancive charges, leading to potential inconveniences like having to struggle with RT while un/equipping their fusion armor, or forgetting to put it back on and get smushed, or for those who are not technically inclined, having to do it by hand each hunt.
The idea behind the pauses was to be a more convenient method of doing things for the players that were encountering those types of issues above. If you're happy with your scripts, there is no need to change them. No one was complaining about screen scroll. The pauses just make wringing that last bit of time out of your enhancives just a bit easier, which is the main thrust of the SimuCoins store - to make things a bit easier for those with less time than they perhaps had in the past.
The armoires are pretty cheap, bounty-point wise. Would there be interest in a more expensive bounty-point version that already came pre-lightened?
Coase

>XXX opens her dark wooden armoire, then suddenly several articles of clothing fly off of her and into the armoire.
The choice of 'XXX' for a character's name with clothing flying off made me snicker.
Being more seriously, this messaging reminds me somewhat of Merlin in Disney's Sword in the Stone when he is packing. Hehehe.
And yes, this is a neat item.
As a player of mostly small races, I can see it from both perspectives. 3 pounds is more than I'd want added to either of my halflings, but one of them has Phase, and the other doesn't carry around two sets of clothing because...that'd be heavier than 3 pounds probably.
>Kayse scrambles to avoid being sucked into the void!

I'm sure I've been coming off as having more of a negative tone than a "frank discussion" tone so I'd like to acknowledge the good work you guys are doing squashing bugs, making the items more user-friendly, and adding functionality (items with redundant descriptions and so on).

Plenty of people complain about the screen scroll. With a lot of enhancive users, the screen scroll is 30-40 lines. Many people also use logic enhancives on nodes for exp absorption. I don't go in for that personally, but it could be an extra 10-20 lines. The enhancive model for most of us is wearing/removing them 10-20 times in one day.
It surprises me to hear that enhancive items aren't the main reason for the magical armoires, especially being there in the AG where we do our enhancive business. All of the initial chatter I heard was praise for addressing the enhancive item scroll issue.

There's definitely demand for something like this.
