Completed assignment reward - working as intended? on 02/23/2015 01:29 PM CST

I brought this up about a month back in a different thread but didn't have a handy log example (and don't recall the original thread now).

This seems like a bug to me on the quest reward but was wondering if someone could review and comment as to whether or not this is working as intended.

You hurl a stream of fire at a siren!
AS: +510 vs DS: +320 with AvD: +55 + d100 roll: +51 = +296
... and hit for 150 points of damage!
Flames burn neck into a bubbling mass of flesh. Forget lunch.
The siren gives a plaintive wail before she slumps to her side and dies.
The brilliant luminescence fades from around a siren.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.

*Out of the corner of your eye, you see a grizzled siren approaching. She must be the creature that you've been tasked to kill!

>prepare immolation
You intone a phrase of elemental power while raising your hands, invoking Immolation...
Your spell is ready.
>ca siren
You gesture at a grizzled siren.
CS: +535 - TD: +482 + CvA: +20 + d100: +48 == +121
Warding failed!
Small flames of yellow and orange hues begin to lick at a grizzled siren. Before long, the flames grow more violent, reaching hungrily up her body. She falls to the floor and the flames engulf her. Black smoke rises in tendrils from the large blaze around a grizzled siren as she burns.

*[You have completed this portion of your Adventurer's Guild task.]
The siren falls to the ground and dies.
The brilliant luminescence fades from around a grizzled siren.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.
(Forcing stance down to guarded)

...

>ask dayl about bounty
Dayle says, "All done with that assignment? Good job, Faulkil!"

*[You have earned 8 bounty points, 800 experience points, and 80 silver.]

Its been mentioned many times since shortly after the AG release. This is the reward you get when no hit point damage is done to the critter by you.

There are lesser downgrades if you just tag it (e.g. lose 75% rather than 99%, play a monk in a group and you'll get to see them)

I'm not sure if its still a general issue with all instakills, if its been fixed on other spells it should have been fixed on immolate too.

It's due to how the immolation mechanics work. Your reward is heavily based on the damage you're doing. Immolation does no damage like normal combat when you get the incineration kill. It simply sets the creature as dead. I don't see this really changing, because it would likely mean a lot of systems would need to recognize this form of instakill.

So, other spells might give the same problem? If I vaporize something with wither, or focused implosion I get a crappy award?

"So, what does that green line on the graph represent?"
"Oh, that's the projection of a hypothetical offspring from a union between Sauron and Cruella de Ville; we use that as a baseline for determining character alignment."

I certainly brought up the spells 717, 718, and 720 (Evil Eye, Torment, and Implosion, respectively) with regard to the Guild under the sorcerer spells folder.

Apparently there are a lot more issues than I realized.

I heard that, for the present, there's no intent to change the system(s). It would be nice to get a complete list of different issues, though.

Creatures walking to another room and bleeding out is another one that's extremely lame.

It's more of a minor annoyance (if that) than a major issue for me but seemed like a bug so I posted. Perhaps one way to address this issue (if there was a desire to do so) would be to have crit kills also apply damage as part of the death crit result.

Thanks for the response.

that would ruin potential animates.
