I've got a few questions about this song. I've started to use it now that I have to worry about spellburst in Wyneb. Because sometimes you get too many spells. Sigh
A: Why in the world is it SO difficult to use against yourself?!
B: What would help me getting a spell removed? I can't see that it depends on any specific lore or whatnot to even train in!
C: Er ... and anything else that I should have asked, but didn't know to?
Thank you in advance.

Re: Song of Unravelling on 05/30/2016 03:16 PM CDT
It's not exactly the best solution, but If you're trained up in the 400s, try 417 or ask around for someone to cast 119 on you. 119 would probably be more useful, though, since it targets spiritual spells first, which are probably what's causing you issues.
Self-cast 1013 not requiring warding (and giving you a smidgen of mana) would be interesting, though.

Lux, there is a pushdown which can be increased by training further in bardsong ranks if memory serves. Nothing else can be done on the training side that I know of.
Your best bet is probably to STOP 430, strip the spell(s) you want off, and then reapply barrier. If your still having trouble self warding taking off 414, 406, and 401 is also an option.

Looking up those numbers ...
I thought that Elemental Dispel could not be targeted. And it costs more mana than Song of Unravelling... Can Spirit Dispel be targeted?
Thank you Mister Taluric. It never occurred to me that my own spell would interfere!

Right, the three spells (five if you count the higher-level ones that strip multiple spells) work similarly, but with differences.
The ones on the minor list always work, as stated. Since they are "by type", carry a Ranger Rod(tm) that a Sorcerer has loaded up with Spirit Dispel for you, and you can get rid of those that way. High level Bards will typically be able to use Elemental Dispel all on their own selves.
The advantages to Unravel are that you CAN target a specific spell (so "Sounds" that a Ranger-critter has cast upon you), just with modifiers.
.
Unravel has a TD pushdown of -1 per 2 Songs known, when cast at a different target. If you compare the target's TD versus VibChant or Disruption, and then look at Unravel, you'll see the difference. I have not tried it on myself, so I don't know if that works there, too.
Yes, this means that 202 Songs (it will work already at 201, due to rounding) == -101TD to the target. Sadly, that means that Unravel is the ONLY Song that would be better by going with "nothing but Songs"; all the others, your effective CS will be higher by getting Targeting on the Minor list.
The amount of mana drawn from the target (for creatures or items) is based on the number of Songs known. So again, 202 Songs would max that out, but even if you subtract the ranks for maxing out Targeting/Barrier, you're still draining a hefty chunk.
.
It used to be the case that any offensive-type spell cast at yourself or a member of your party was at -50TD. So if that is still present, that should simplify things a little for hitting the right one, too.

1013 is probably your best bet even with all that's been said, its very precise which is why I use it to dispel myself instead of 417 or using a spirit dispel imbed. You can target spells active on you, the most reliable way is to prep 1013 then sing self with the spell number you want to remove. For example I use this all the time, prep 1013, sing Archales 412 to remove that annoying AS penalty. I do not think that there is a push down when targeting a specific spell, which might be why is seems to challenging to ward yourself, the suggestion to stop some of the 400's might also help but is alot more mana intensive.

I was under the impression elemental and bard TD on the player side were indentical (this comes from before mental spheres were really a thing and could have changed).
Testing by casting 1008 at myself my TD is actually (exactly) 50 points greater then with 409. Something feels off with that however and I lack a third party to cast at me on the test server.
