You carefully begin to examine a rotting modwir box for traps...
At first glance, the modwir box appears to be covered with hundreds of tiny metal scales. Closer examination reveals the "scales" to be razor sharp at the edges and possessing of a downward-facing needlelike tip. However, you should be able to avoid cutting yourself if you are careful.
It looks like an incredibly hard trap (about -371).
You still have a good enough picture of the trap in your mind, that you could try to disarm it.
Roundtime: 5 sec.
Having discovered a trap on the box you begin to carefully attempt to disarm it...
Despite heavy scrutiny, you can see no way to pry off any of the scales, nor any particular reason to. With a modicum of caution, they should present no danger. Nothing else about the box suggests that it is trapped.
Roundtime: 15 sec.
How do I disarm it?

Scale trap, you need a dagger. I "think" you pick it and then disarm before opening it. A real rogue will be along soon with better info I am sure.

It is a scales trap and hits the entire room with flechettes, not just the rogue picking it. One of the deadlier traps, I believe.
You PICK the lock after you discover the trap, but do not open the box!
After picking you will need a dagger in your hand, use the DISARM command after the box is picked but before it is opened.

And of course, if you set off a scales trap in town, you will be arrested and hit with a humongous fine, depending on the number of collateral casualties.
"So, what does that green line on the graph represent?"
"Oh, that's the projection of a hypothetical offspring from a union between Sauron and Cruella de Ville; we use that as a baseline for determining character alignment."
