I'm looking at making an alt and think I have settled on a ranger archer. Now, I normally play humans, but I'm pretty curious about the Sylvan lore, and find it interesting, as well as the possibility of living in the East (which I haven't really done much of). How much of an impact will losing the STR bonus of a human be to a sniping archer?
Thanks,
Appoloin

Strength bonus reduces ranged RT by 1 second per 10.

When both have 100 Strength the human will shoot 1/2 a second faster than your Sylvan. So without enhancives it won't make a difference if you both have 509 on because the Sylvan will have a 40 Str and the Human a 45. Then you add 606 and you will have a total of 5 of 5.5 seconds off your RT.
If you open fire you will be able to use a longbow in 3 with either race. If you want to snipe with a longbow in 3 seconds you will need +10 on the Sylvan but only +5 on the human.
I would say go with whichever you would have more fun RPing. As a Ranger you will be able to make endless haste imbeds anyways if you really wanted to so it won't even matter.

All of the above, and in addition if you have a feline companion using assume aspect (feline) can boost your skills or strength more, while hunting with all the above, usually it is going to max out anyone. The biggest influence you will see in your firing is by weapon choice more then strength, unless you start with an unusually low stat for whatever reason.
Strength was one of my fastest growing stats and I was at 100 I think by my mid 60s. I probably could have started with mine a bit lower even with the penalty.

Armor, absolutely armor. I'd suggest going to double chain (50 ranks) as quickly as possible if you're going to be an open archer.

CM on an archer isn't really necessary till way later. I got up to 80 without any and could probably cap without it if I didn't feel like actually not getting obliterated by bandits/grim when they use Cmans on me but if you just choose to not warcamp and are careful with bandits you could easily just avoid cmans when leveling and you will be fine.

I'm a good ways post cap and have 74 CM ranks, just enough to have mastered Disarm and Cunning Defense. Works perfectly fine for an archer.
