My warrior's a giantwoman that's just about to turn 30 and carries a spiked tower shield (the shield's not changing, it's part of her RP). At the moment, she'd 2x shield/1x dodge per the best advice I could find WAY back at the conversion from GS3 and I've never really given it a lot of thought. Now that the Shield maneuvers are out, I've been thinking more about it though and have been wondering if she wouldn't be better off dropping the Dodge altogether and bumping Shield Use up to 3x?

Her STR is 100 and AGL is 98 if it matters.

I think you could go ahead and give it a shot. Or you could just leave the dodge where it's at and start moving to 3x shield, sticking with 30 ranks of dodge, or 20. I am loving the new shield maneuvers, and have repeatedly sung the virtues of trample in particular, though you are probably a ways from trample mastery.

Good luck,

You'll have to give up something else as well as dodge to get the TPs for 3x shield. If what you can buy with the shield points is a worthwhile trade for that, then do it.

True, it's not going to be a straight up conversion, as the first rank of dodge is 4/2 and the third rank of shield use is 8/0. This is why I suggested that keeping some dodge while adding the third rank of shield use slowly into the mix might be a way to go. If you convert them all to mental, which is probably what the TP pile you have looks like, you have 16 vs 10. So long as you are committed to your spiked wall shield, I would work hard to get the shield points to effectively use trample mastery, and squeeze my training to make it happen. I suspect the DS and E/B/P totals won't change much either way.

Yer, I'd considered that there's the difference in TP costs. Just dropping the Dodge will allow me to get up to 84 ranks (I'm already at 64 ranks, just leveled to 30). I'd already decided to stop MOC training at 30 ranks, since I'm rarely in a situation where more would be beneficial outside of invasions, and I stopped training in Swimming and Climbing at 15 ranks each (she's in RR)... so along with the slight excess of TPs she already had, I should be able to get her fully 3x 4-5 levels. Though, I could also drop AR down and gradually pick that back up to get it all now (everyone's always casting blues on me whether I want them or not anyway).

All else being equal between Dodge and Shield (or at least close), I'd just as soon have the shield points to play around with. It's the way evade, block, and parry all interact with each other that confuse the heck out of me.
