I'm nearing cap for the first time ever and have acquired a fixstat potion for the occasion. I'm not entirely sure which stats help the most when capped though so that's the advice I'm looking for. I'm fairly certain I'll max out STR, DEX and WIS, but everything else is kind of nebulous. What do you all suggest?
If you want to suggest stats along with your reasoning I won't stop you. :)

Oh, in conjunction ot that, what is the exact procedure for using a fixstat potion?

Re: Fixstat help on 10/03/2011 01:45 PM CDT
If you are near cap anyway, wait till you hit 100 and see what you would like to change.
Personally, I have one capped character, and 2 more nearing cap. None of their stats are perfect, but so what? Once you cap, your stats have no bearing on the TPs you earn. If you have made it this far with your own stats, seems to me you might be better off selling the silly potion for a bundle.
On the other hand, it's always possible that your current stats do suck horribly, even though they clearly haven't prevented you from getting this far. If you post them, it would be useful information. For me, I would never blow 1,000,000 bounty points on a fix-stat potion.

I pretty much just went by intuition when creating her; intuition logic and intuition will never get near 100 but so what? Can she kick ass? Yes indeed. Can she heal? You bet! OK, right now these goobers are 6 levels below her, but she was almost as good at like level as far as combat goes. Just waiting to hit 95 before transferring to OTF hunting area.

The path is flat and level here, the only obstructions being a few fallen stalactites. A look up reveals that the ceiling is covered with these spearlike stones, hopefully firmly attached. The constant vibrations rumbling through the area are not reassuring in the least. You also see an Illoke elder and a crumbling stone bridge.

I haven't used it yet. I think you drink it then check in to the inn where you'll now find an option to reset stats once. That's what I gleamed from other posts.

The fact that stats don't affect TPs after cap IS the reason use a Fixstat. I set Mirrami's stats during the GS3to4 conversion to give her enough TPs to train in her mutant archery build. I don't have to do that after cap. Now I can max out the direct bonus she gets from the various attributes. Personally, I see the permanent bonus I can get from higher stats as much more valuble than some bounty points or silvers. I can always get more bounty points and silver later.
>>On the other hand, it's always possible that your current stats do suck horribly, even though they clearly haven't prevented you from getting this far. If you post them, it would be useful information. --throgg
They're not terrible, they just aren't perfect. Mirrami is 94 just like Guenn, but I've left OTF and have been frying Nelemar since 90. I don't want to get off topic by posting what I currently have though. I'm interested in how important everyone thinks the differnt stats are at cap.
Let me rephrase my questions to hopefully get some better discussion. If you were going to set stats for cap, would you try to max everything and screw a single stat? If so, which stat? Or would you try to get half your stats to 100, and then have the other half over 90?

Re: Fixstat help on 10/03/2011 04:55 PM CDT
The stat maximizer can help you see how much you have to tank any one (or multiple) stats. For Taaki's case, I can have all 100's, except tank influence. And by 'tank' I mean it still ends up at 76. Results vary by race and class. But thats how I plan on using it.
Thanks for the advice on how to use it, that helps.

Heeeh, you are more adventurous than I am then. I am more than willing to underhunt for several trainings in order to gain the necessary experience to advance. Glad to hear that you are doing well in Nelemar, since Guenn may be joining you there soon.
As for stats, you already know my opinion, so I will not bore by restating.
Re: Fixstat help on 10/05/2011 12:58 PM CDT
I've been thinking about my own questions and have come to a similar conclusion as Taaki. It seems like it would be better to be lower in one stat than to be a little low in a lot of stats.
Influence isn't the best stat to trash as an empath so I'm leaning toward discipline.
This is probably what I'll go with unless someone can offer a good reason to not dump discipline. Thanks for the helpful suggestions!

I might caution against discipline purely because sylvans, as an elven race, have a negative to the stat. I'm not entirely familiar with your build, but I can say I tanked agility (where we have a bonus) in my own and haven't suffered too many ill effects.

Re: Fixstat help on 10/05/2011 02:22 PM CDT
When looking for a tank stat I tend to favor intuition. It doesn't seem to effect to many things in a big way unless its a prime stat or you are looking to disarm boxes. As an archer I don't think you want to tank agility as it helps with your DS and avoiding some maneuvers. I know intuition also effects DS but at 1/4 the value of agility. Intuition also helps with maneuvers but there are no hard numbers for that and I don't think any comparison as been made to gauge its effects either. As an empath training in PF is rather easy on the tps though and the biggest help to avoiding maneuvers so I don't think you'd suffer any there.
Re: Fixstat help on 10/05/2011 02:30 PM CDT
As far as using the fixstat potion my understanding has been this, if you have a fixskills use it before the potion to adjust your skills because when you use the potion it resets your fixskills option. Whenever someone uses a fixstat potion they always lower their TP pool, so I would suggest using the trainer spreadsheet to see which skill or skills you want to downgrade. If you are unsure you can always train everything down to zero and work up from there.
Re: Fixstat help on 10/05/2011 03:05 PM CDT
Agility, Discipline, Intuition and Dexterity all have the same GI so any of those four could be used as a stat to tank. I wouldn't tank Dex as an archer and honestly, I hadn't considered Agility much. I was only looking at Dis and Int.
Agility bonus adds directly to DS. Tanking the stat would mean a loss of around 10 DS. And it may have some affect on dodging attacks. Which is already 5 higher due to being sylvan.
We know that Discipline is involved in a lot of hidden systems, guild skills and forging. It's not really clear what it does for those or which systems. Sylvans have a -5 here.
Intuition plays a minor roll in DS and dodging. Providing around 2.5 DS less if tanked. It's also part of the experience equation.
Looking just at the numbers, Int would probably be the best to tank for a more well rounded character statistically. Picking Dis would amplify the sylvan bonuses and penalties, making a more extreme character. I tend to favor extremes. Are there any good reasons to not tank Dis?
Conceptually, I like the idea of Mirrami being undisiplined. Relaying more on her speed and instinct (intuition) to get by. Discipline suits Nilandia a lot more, I see why you went with that. I take it you just tanked Agility and put 100s in nearly everything else?

Re: Fixstat help on 10/05/2011 03:40 PM CDT
Intuition is not part of experience. I believe that's purely logic at this point.
I tanked agility and constitution in favor of mental stats, since I have such a magic-heavy build. I also intend to fixstat when I cap, after I've built a good buffer of points that I'll be losing.
As an archer, I definitely would suggest keeping dex high. Discipline I'd keep high because of the reasons you listed. Agility and intuition might be the two stats to look at for tanking.

Hah! Int was removed from the experience equation and replaced by Dis to determine max exp pool. That does tweak things a bit, tipping the scales toward Discipline's favor.
It's the little system changes like that that I forget over the years. Thanks for pointing it out.
Conceptually I don't like tanking Int, but this is a mechanical system and has little to do with role play. As Galvin mentioned, it will be easy to pick up other skills to compensate and keep the image I have of Mirrami functional. We're talking about minor bonuses anyway, and probably over analyzing everything as Throgg suggests. But I do like me some math and spreadsheets!
