That rather depends on how you feel about spell failure. Many warpaths recommend going to brigandine, or even chain. Just be aware that the heavier your armor, the greater the chance your spell will fail. It also depends on your finances; can you afford high enchant armor? Can you afford to get it crit padded? Not getting hit at all is the best defence; I'd take 7x crit padded double leather over 4x plain brigandine.
