So there was a merchant today who spun for ten people. By the time they had finished working on those (including some verrrrry long alters) there were 12 eligible people left in the room. They spun again for another ten people. One of the unpicked left immediately, the other stuck it out. By the time the second 10 were done a whole mess of additional people had shown up and the lone person who had been there from the beginning had to watch as people who had literally just walked in, like seconds before, got picked instead.
Normally I love spinning because it lessens the incentive for people to hide merchant location information from each other, but this time it done did an injustice. After the second spin, I made some comments commiserating with the poor unpicked soul along the lines of, "Seems harsh that 2 people got left out" and it seemed like the merchant took offense to that. They left the situation unaddressed and, when I got my service done, pointedly refrained from their "Hope you have fun at the festival" goodbye that every other person had gotten. I understand that merchants are people with feelings like everyone else, but I really, really hope that my pretty benign comments didn't ruffle feelings and prevent this unlucky person from a simple accommodation like, "Oh hey, I guess my spinner doesn't like you, but I see you're the one person who's been here for hours so poof you're on the list."
For what it's worth, if it hadn't been for that incident I'd have been all glowing praise for the hours of work the merchant put in for us. As it is, that still deserved praise is tempered by disappointment.

Spinners for years have hated me. I have been that person that has stayed till the end and never got picked. HOwever I have also had pity taken on me and have been helped. This festival without (FELTHROP FELTHROP FELTHROP) doesn't do much for me. It's a neat festival and I appreciate the hard work the gm's put in. I understand Jainna was on a fishing vacation trying to figure out how to get me my fishing title, so I get it. I won unbalance flares last year was awesome.
My only complaint at all is 150 people in a raffle for 1 item. I mentioned it before but how really game changing would it be to add a second item if it gets over 100 people. My rng is awful so I would probably lose out but still!!!

Speaking only for myself...
When I'm working on someone's alteration (particularly those looong ones you mentioned), I'm often scrolled up on my screen. I don't hear stray comments like that most of the time, nor do I often notice whispers. Please don't assume the merchant is just blowing you off.
Additionally, while it can seem dismissive to let those last two (or however many) people go without a service, often our RL obligations require us to stop working, or we've been there for awhile already and are in dire need of a break to avoid making mistakes, or or cat just puked on the floor, or whatever.
My only point here is that it's a safe bet not to take stuff like this personally. We really do try to accommodate as many people as we can, realistically.
