I have no idea if this is the right place for this questions or not, but here goes:

According to GS's Twitter feed, a couple of people just found REAL GEMS...what in the world does that mean?

From time to time, adventurers in the lands will find a REAL GEM as a result of their searching. These gems are provided by SIMUTRONICS as just one more benefit for exploring the lands of Elanthia. They can be found anywhere, by anyone. It has been a bit of time since I was aware of a REAL GEM being found. This is great news! And I'm sure the finders are very happy.

Am I right in remembering these players actually receive an actual real gemstone from Simu through the mail?

I believe so! I've never been worthy. . . but I still look. :) From what I've heard, the gemstone is the same type as what you find. I don't have any idea how finished they are, but still . . . what fun!

From what I remember the description of the gem in the game is a description of the gem they send you. So you don't find a regular gem that looks normal, you'd find something like 'a bezel-cut lemon yellow citrine' and when you pick it up it sends out an announcement to that effect...

There was a bunch of them hidden for the big switch to gs4. I still occasionally poke around for one that got missed :D

The one I found, once upon a time was 'a garnet'. I still have it as an item IG, and interestingly it's probably the most expensive garnet I've ever seen, appraising for like 3k.

I would suggest using MARK on that gem if you haven't already.
