Question for everyone: in swamp trolls, does anyone have the messaging for when a spell fails against you due to you resisting it? Either all of their spells that I get just the 'A swamp troll grunts and gestures' or whatever it is is them backfiring and I haven't resisted a single spell yet, or they are being resisted and Im just not seeing it. Im a barbarian, and so far I have not been dancing for my testing, and Im not sure if the gesture-but-no-effect are both him failing and me resisting (which would be good) or him always failing (which would be good too, because then I would know). Thanks!

I have a feeling we're resisting and not even showing. I was out there playin around today (btw, I'm VERY unhappy to see they haven't lost their increased stats now that they have magic back... I WANT MY OLD TROLLS BACK! :sobs:), and had it cast on me a couple times. None of the times did my inner fire take a visible hit, but the AL, which used to take me from Incredible/Overwhelming to slightly offbalance/slight now only took me to about nimble/very strong. It could be their new spell mechanics... or we're resisiting and not even knowing it.
has anyone else noticed that their ALs got weaker, or is it really BMR in use?

There's more on this in the Barbarian - Barbarian Magic Resistance category, but basically you get an Inner Fire hit message ONLY if your BMR completely fails. If the spell fires and you don't get an IF hit message, then you partially resisted. There's no good way to tell how much of the spell was resisted, but it's somewhere between 1% and 99% as effective as it would have been otherwise.
If you get an IF hit message and the spell takes effect, then the spell completely overwhelmed your BMR and is 100% effective.
If the spell fizzles, then you completely resisted it and would get no IF hit message.
Hope that clears things up a bit -- your BMR is working if the spell hits you but you receive no decrease in IF.

The question remains unanswered. When a Mage (Player) casts a spell that isn't able to overcome MR of the players and critters in the room, then you recieve a really weird message along the lines of 'Motes of light appear around.. " or something like that (I don't have it memorized). But this isn't happening when the critter fails their spells due to MR or BMR. I know our magic and theirs isn't the same, but some sort of messaging from the critter should be able to be seen. (NOT an IF message, because, well i'm a Mage, i'd love to know if my MR is causing his spells to fail).. wouldn't you agree?
