SO under the new mech split and crafting mechanics scraping skins no longer works mech lore and I get that.

my question is what affects your success/failure now?
a) your ranks in skinning
b) quality of tools
c) your personal stats
d) all of the above.

I took an almost 2 year break from the game and only ever used/had store bought scrapers and since i've gotten back I've noticed that i seam to be maring my pelts and skin more frequently.

While i'm on the topic i pull 99 percentile perfect hides from gargoyles and snowbeasts (i know your all happy for me) does the quality of a pelt affect its value or is it just the same.

Tools do not affect success, only speed and their own durability.

Does the workability of the skin matter?

I do not believe so, but I'm not 100% sure on that. I believe it's outfitting skill only. If not, then it's a very odd departure from other systems.

>b) quality of tools

Yes. Better tools basically give you a skill bonus.

>c) your personal stats

No. As of current systems, while stats may speed things up, they don't affect your chances of success.

>Tools do not affect success, only speed and their own durability.

What I think the poster meant to say is that as long as it's masterfully-crafted, then you're getting the best bonus you can. The type of scraper only affects the ratio of speed to durability.

>Does the workability of the skin matter?

Yes. Lower workability skins increase the difficulty to perform all steps.

I'm not getting enough sleep in grad school! I didn't see the part where he was using store-bought tools... listen to Caaramon, not I. You might also want to check if your scraper is damaged with analyze.

It is. Scraping skins teaches -- and I would presume uses -- skinning. I suppose outfitting could be involved? I can't recall anything to that effect. It can be useful to make up some of the skinning exp that's been lost with kill speed.

Scraping skins DOES NOT work outfitting unless you have to choose outfitting as a career or hobby

sorry meant the unless you've chosen outfitting as a career or hobby as a question.

Oh. Yea I was confused by that sentence. No, choosing outfitting as a career or hobby will not 'allow' you to learn outfitting from scraping skins, nor is there a tech that enables this. Nor do I think there would be an analog in the other creation systems.

Indirectly, obviously, since you can scrape skins and then use them to create outfitting products.
