A mere 5 plat lirums gets you into the fight of the year at Therenborough Amphitheater tonight at 9pm est. All constestans will enter the arena at once and fight to the death! No pre fight advantages, no area effect spells or abilities, and yes, the kill counter will be turned off for this event. Last fighter standing takes home a whopping twenty percent of the entry fee intake and supreme bragging rights.
Also looking for volunteer empaths, clerics and paladins to help clean up the mess afterward.
Come join or watch the fun and help support the building of a Therengian arena!

Since I've seen some posts in various folders about the kill limit being a concern for tonights Baronial Battle, let me reassure you my darling warriors you will be able to kill at will during the competition. It would be impossible to throw a last man standing sort of battle if you were all being thrown into the to many kill room! It promises to be a delightful slaughter so I hope you all have fun!

Any way we could get the kill counter turned off for our(disparagingly rare these days) cemetary tournaments? Or just get rid of it entirely? What exactly is it's purpose?

In order to have the kill counter removed at anytime you'd first have to go through the proper channels, letting us know in advance about your event so that a GM can monitor it. This isn't something we do just because a group of player's decide, "Hey I want a tourney!" Although I'm sure none of my darling warriors would abuse it, we do have players that would cause alot of misery for others, so it has been proven a necessary function. In the case of the Baronial Battle, a formal request was made, it was deemed a worthwhile event by the GMs, and it was monitored by a GM the whole time. I'm glad everyone enjoyed themselves!!!!!

The Crossing cemetary isn't an official arena nor do I know of any plans to turn it into one in the future so removing the kill counter isn't an option. I'm aware that there's people who enjoy some of the rustic options allowed in an outdoor arena and have noted it for future plans.

Alvy, the crossing cemetary is as official as an unofficial spot for tournaments as has ever existed. Not only does it have a long and bloody history, it gets used more than any other location for that purpose. It's not so much that it's an outdoor arena as simply that it is the location which is used.
If you fix the arena in crossing then it's possible that we'll use that one instead, but owing to issues of simple habit and convenience the cemetary is used for tourneys. I support Maulem's fights and I'm glad that some good old fashioned violence is getting some GM sponsership, but since most tourneys are of the pickup variety we can't really send e-mails to the events team the month in advance that sort of thing traditionally requires.
I really just can't imagine how the fact that the cemetary is where the vast majority of tourneys occurs could possibly be neglected or overlooked. Is there some particular policy that forbids the kill counter to be turned off on a permanent basis in certain rooms not designated as an 'arena'? What would it take to get those three rooms declared an official arena, then?
Orpheus: "You've been powering this machine with a forsaken child?"
Venture: "What? It's not like I used the whole thing."

Hikuro (OLESH, whatever) said it well.

It's not used because of outdoor rustic feel. Look. If you make an arena, whether it gets used won't depend on the room messaging or the RP feel of it. Without a doubt it's about mechanics. People who tourney care about mechanics.

It appears my approach was too subtle so let me see if I can make it a bit clearer. Rustic options = outdoor mechanics. Right now the bulk of the arenas out there are inside which hinders some guilds from having access to all their spells to tourney with. From a mechanics perspective an outdoor arena placed properly will solve that problem.
