Overhearing classes:
If you are in the same room a class is being taught and your not in the class, you could "overhear" part of the lecture, and gain a little bit of experience from it. This can be based on skill and stat checks, and class (for instance, a Paladin doesn't want to overhear stealing).
Request for listening:
Anybody can LISTEN TO (TEACHER) and it will request to the teacher that they want to learn, the teacher will then have to TEACH the person who wants to learn and they will be put into the class. Essentially, it'll eliminate the spoken request, the teacher teaching it, and then the student listening.
Lecture Teaching:
After you have a high rank in teaching and the skill you want to teach, you can start lecturing to a room besides individual people. Anyone can then focus and listen to that teacher to learn more.

em thinks of teaching an open class so he doesn't have to offer it, then anyone could leave or join (where it would be up to the student to chose to listen)

I like this, but I'd prefer that it was voluntary. Something like...
>listen soandso
Soanso's class is full, would you like to eavesdrop? Type LISTEN SOANDSO again within 30 seconds to do so.
Soandso would gain zero teaching exp from you, and your effective learning would get a 50% penalty or something, since the teacher isn't paying attention to you.

I like this. A lot.
