okay so I started a barbarian, went to hogs ran out scared for my life..went to rats and was getting hit??! Just thought it was strange that a Barbarian could barely parry a rat. Anyways, since reflex was reduced is it now pointless to train or rather would agility be more important then reflex now well atleast for aspect of not getting hit. I'm not entirely new to the game either as formerly a 30th prydaen warmage and 38th elven barbarian.
Well Hope someone has some insight.

Parry saw practically no change with the recent combat updates.
It's probably something else. Maybe you are using a weapon with terrible balance?
SEND[Iayn] You are not staff sling primary?
You say, "No, I'm not crazy."
SEND[Iayn] everyone knows staff slings are barbaric.
SEND[Iayn] certainly more barbaric than folding little pieces of paper

I just tried rolling a newbie dwarf barb to see if his complaint is valid. I just had him kick the bucket in premie shipyard rats. Even 1 rat got through his parry with my stances at parry 100 evasion 80. I armed him with a short hafted halberd off the rack in the guild and just stuck with the coat that he was rolled up with for armor.
That the character got overwhelmed and took a whooping isn't what disturbed me though. The fact that his parry was so overwhelmed that after several minutes of hunting rats I barely learned any parry.
Anyway, whatever happened shipyard rats are definitly harder than I recall them ever being.

Shipyard rats are taking over, you didn't know? I'd steer clear of them if I were you.

I also started a newbie due to the fact that my main was dead. I was having the same parry troubles, so I had someone teach me parry for a bit while I was getting healed, and after that I was totally fine (at about 3 ranks), rats never hit me again.
< You clamp your teeth on an arbelog's abdomen gnashing it with painful bites that cuts deeply into its groin.
An arbelog is moderately stunned!
An arbelog hisses out a whispered curse as it stumbles, falls, then dies.
[You're very badly balanced]

My stances were Parry 100% and Evasion 80% ...And Barbarians start with like 3 parry or 4 parry anyways to boot not to mention aren't we supposed to have a bonus to melee combat which in fact makes us harder to hit. Well I decided to check to see if it was just me and I had 5 rats on me a novice warrior mage walked in and I hid..Well the mage died trying to parry but it kinda further proved my point.. that and I didnt have to listen to him... What im really worried about though if this is a chain effect all the way down, that means I can't go straight to eels after goblins. I'm gonna have to find something in between and train. More or less though what about are melee bonus unless im terrible misdirected and there never was one.

Wow, Nice way to get off topic, if you can't understand 4th grade writing don't post. The post was to further enforce the statements of other posts that stated the same problem with parry. Unless you didn't read. And the Warrior Mage forums has little to do with the Barbarians complaint folder. Anyways im doing a tad better I raised agility and reflex to 14 still seems a bit shabby though. Though someone earlier said there was hardly any change to parry and then someone said it was mainly to evasion. If evasion is the first thing to decide and allows you to parry better (Evasion took x% of the attack and parry defends against the left over % and x% is still left) something along those lines I imagine. Need more insight...
Re: Parry sucks.. on 03/29/2007 03:20 PM CDT
In order to give you insight I need some more info.
Please post...
Your stats.
Weapon/parry/evasion ranks.
Your STANCE info.
Your weapon's appraisal (at least the balance)
The enemies you are fighting.
Parry saw practically no change, like I said. I guarantee your problems are elsewhere, and I'll try and help you fix the problem.

I'll chime in and say that I saw a hit to parry with the recent changes, but primarily on my low balance Blunts.
Nothing to make me cry but it was a change that I wasn't expecting because 'Parry was affected' by the reflex changes.
It would make sense if the evasion amount was reduced however and so parry had to compensate more.
I think anyone here who rolled up a new character and ran them through rats/hogs/unarmed gobs would be surprised how much gets through a 100% parry/80% evasion stance compared to what you're used to.

Well its and Edgee forged Bastard Sword 28 stones not the shoddy (as Mendasity would say) g/s but the h/g and i believe the balance is reasonably. My stats were agility 14 reflex 14, I also has wearing forged HC chain hauberk and HC helm by Redarch which those stats can be found at http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pJAlRZGv_50jH9-ExMghJKg&gid=0
Skill at the time was evasion 7 parry 3-4, now im in unarmed goblins and still get with 40 parry 42 multi and 34 evasion. Hope that helps.

(Bastie would be h/s r/f) Or at least it used to be.
I still think what you're noticing is that a lot more hits are getting past evasion checks and it's not a parry issue.
Maybe I misread, but I don't believe parry was downtweaked in any way.
However, I can tell you from my experiences hunting that evasion has taken a much larger hit than some might see.
I believe this is part of a vast empath conspiracy to get more wounds to heal because I'm getting banged up left and right.

I've noticed that parry isn't nearly as effective, however shield is. With 42 ranks in parry, I can dance with maybe two eels without getting hit. However, when I switch to shield at 44 ranks, I can do up to 8 without being touched. However, I use a claymore, which are horribly balanced, but I don't intend on switching.
Guess it's time to make shield primary defense.

If you used a R/R bastie parry would be better.

Not in my experience with the current system. Thief, high agility, no armor, shield 10 ranks behind parry, using a cutlass or Jambiya. vs. 6 eels stanced shield never got touched. Stanced parry never blocked a durn thing.

I've never seen a cutlass or jambiya that is reasonably balance. They are both probably fairly.
The difference is probably most pronounced with a MM (both shield and parry tert) with access to an excellently balanced Moonblade, or if you have a Thief who has a backstabbing weapon ground for balance.

>app my jam
A darkened jambiya set with a sinuous yellow sapphire panther on the hilt is a light edged melee-ranged weapon.
The darkened jambiya is well suited for backstabbing.
You are certain that it could do:
fair puncture damage
fair slice damage
poor impact damage
You are certain that the jambiya is reasonably balanced and is fairly suited to gaining extra attack power from your strength
You are certain that the darkened jambiya is fairly sturdy, and is in pristine condition.
The darkened jambiya is made with metal.
The darkened jambiya feels pretty light.
You are certain that the darkened jambiya is worth exactly 400 lirums.
Yeesh, how many times do you have to post and not be correct. now I see why folks get so frustrated with you sometimes.
