This is an awesome addition, thank you so much!

You scan the area for any authorities who might take issue with you being vocally intimidating.
You don't notice any easily frightened authorities around. Let loose the cries of war!

I was messing around with it a bit and I'm not sure if it's working so far. It is listing this even in the city of Mer'kresh. Whether I am in a hunting ground or considered in town, it lists that same message.

Found something that is not intended (roar quiet is intended to check your voice while keeping you in your hidden or invisible state:

>roar quiet
You spring from hiding, releasing a furious cry of war!
You feel ready to defeat an army!

Roar and Roar Quiet are not distinguished anymore as soon as Roar Check was released.

Prior to the change:
>roar quiet
You feel ready to defeat an army!

After the change:
> roar quiet
You bare your teeth with fierce pride as a Barbarian's roar thunders from the depths of your spirit!
You feel ready to defeat an army!

Haven't checked to see whether it's giving the whole room the standard roar message, or just us, but it didn't used to give either the barb using it or the room a message other than telling us what our voice level was.

The purpose of ROAR QUIET is to have no 3rd person perspective messaging seen. It's only supposed to give message about voice condition to the 1st person point of view for that Barbarian.

As soon as ROAR CHECK came live, what happened was that ROAR QUIET = ROAR.

This is not the way it is supposed to be, as ROAR QUIET is an extension of ROAR. Similar to how ROAR CHECK is an extension of ROAR.

When you are in hiding or invisible, you could have typed ROAR QUIET and received your voice condition level without being taken out of your hidden state.

Because ROAR QUIET = ROAR at the moment, they are both taking you out of your hidden state just to check your voice level.

What needs to be re-adjusted is:

* that ROAR QUIET is implemented back, instead of the system viewing ROAR QUIET as the same thing as ROAR.

* ROAR CHECK needs to look at each individual room you are in and recognize whether the justice system is on for that room.

As an example for that, if it is telling me when I use ROAR CHECK that certain areas in the city of Mer'kresh are OK to roar, I already know that's wrong because I would get a passerby which gives me a disturbing the peace warrant.

I'll keep messing around with this verb later tonight, so if you want to ask me any questions send me a message in game. Thanks again for looking into these things and for the concept, Aurdun. Definitely appreciated!

Hmm. QUIET will be an easy fix, but there is another issue that might take a touch more time. I'm going to remove this release until I can get these two things working correctly. This will push the TF release back a hair so that I can fix anything else that pops up.

Ok. BTW, nice messaging touch on ROAR CHECK.

Also, I think there's an issue with Death's Lullaby, but that is not due to the release of ROAR CHECK.

What's the issue with Lullaby? And yeah, it's not related to the recent changes because it's not controlled by the same stuff.

Sorry, nothing is wrong with it. It's working as intended. My mistake on this one.

I just wish it took the target out of hidden state (not invisibility though) when the target is impacted:

You continue to tremble with fear, your limbs shaking involuntarily.

^-- the target gets roundtime anywhere from 2 to 6 seconds. You would think that the limbs shaking involuntarily would remove the target from it's state of remaining trying to remain hidden, right?

So you changed the justice system to make the entire city of Mer'kresh (shops, buildings within it) to be void of justice?

Nor necessarily, though I can see how one can interpret it that way.

You define it. ;)

It could mean a lot of things. Your arms, legs are shaking (aka limbs in Dragonrealms).

You would think that your presence would be given up when your "limbs" are moving involuntarily for the duration that the "limbs" are "shaking."

Think 'rabbit scared out of its wits' shaking, not 'Doctor testing my reflexes' shaking. When Skiori and I were originally discussing it, that's what we were going for. Subtle shaking (more akin to a shivering), not OMG HERE I AM shaking. Granted, Skiori and I aren't in charge anymore, so that could very well change. :D

Gotcha. Thanks for the insight. Always appreciated for the DVD extras on how developer's came to their ideas. :) The entire system is a credit to both Skiori and yourself (and whoever I am leaving out that helped work on it). It is my favorite system in the game to explore, read about, talk about, etc.

I see your point, but I also don't feel convinced that the messaging and even your explanation would prevent someone from remaining hidden from retaining their position without the constant subtle shaking/shivering.

If that's the case that there would be involuntary subtle twitching, than why not go for the obvious and just make the target be instilled with twitching wounds when their mind is jolted from this sense of fear?

I could see it making it harder to stay in hiding.....

Once ROAR CHECK is fixed it could be added to the ROAR HELP menu.

Also the ROAR HELP menu, could lose the delay "good for you" message as well.

Thanks

No, just of disturbing the peace, endangering the public, and forbidden practices. So basically it's in permanent 'invasion mode'.

Understood. This may sound out of place since you mentioned it is "permanent" in terms of that mode, but isn't an invasion mode only circumstantial when there is an ongoing invasion?

Or did someone forget to turn off the invasion mode switch with regards to disturbing the peace, endangering the public and forbidden practices?

> roar check

You scan the area for any authorities who might take issue with you being vocally intimidating.
Taking stock of the surroundings, you decide this may not be the time and place to release your cries of battle.

Your teacher's voice echoes in your thoughts. "The earth is not alive. It cannot truly feel anger. You, however, can." Remembering that lesson and the form of intimidation you must use, you release a low, brutal roar.
An asaren celpeze appears startled and uncertain of its footing.

This is in Ratha. The entire celpeze area is CHECKed as the above.

This might be one of those wierd hybridish rooms where you can get arrested for it if there's no enemies in the room.

Or I might just be tired and remembering something that never actually existed.

Just to verify before I cross post in the Ratha folder to Alvy's attention, is it not intended to use intimidation attacks in the Ratha celpeze hunting area? If you look at the room description, you can make a case both ways. It's a ruined neighborhood, so people wandering in the background unseen to our characters could be there or may not be there.

I can't say if it is intended or not, as that is up to the owner of the area. I like the idea of being able to use your roars there, though.

It was specifically allowed after someone requested the change. Perhaps it wasn't set up quite the right way.

If it was changed to be allowed, it's basically because justice works in that area but has been overridden to allow roars. That's why roar check doesn't show it as being allowed. I'll see what, if anything, can be done to get it messaging correctly.
