Sounds awesome, A++.

I hope berserks are reworked to be made for functional.

Glad to hear that someone is finally working on this.

Its a shame now that Magic 3.0 is being work on and the Barbarian rewrite has to get done before for it which looks like why its getting attention now.. Which hopefully doesn't result in it being done half ass and in a hurry now for the magic 3.0.

I'm glad you all decided to go the route of having to actively choose magic resistance. Honestly, I think any passive resistance we would have gotten under the current development ideals would have sucked anyways.

>>The new guild vision includes a more freeform character development where abilities such as roars, berserks, meditations, forms (dances) and combat maneuvers fall into all-inclusive paths and groups. This allows the choice-driven advancement that has long been missing from the guild, outside of roars.

This worries me but I guess it can't get any worse...

My vote is for no PAFO, I hate that, especially for abilities and paths you have to choose and then find out you don't like it. We should be able to test each choice thoroughly before locked in a decision. Just look at the utter failure of roars for an example of PAFO gone wrong.

I'm glad to hear there's a plan going on, but I'm going to hold out any hope until there's something actively being coded.

yeah, i'm another that votes against the whole PAFO thing. by the way, i'd like to be able to change roars too.

with the whole barrier thing - will we still have a way of "forgetting" magical ranks accidently acquired from years ago? <i have one character that got some MD from touching something in dunshade manor years ago that i had no clue was magical. >

I feel calmer now about BMR. But timing is critical on our new abilities. We would need them all installed no later than the BMR change being initiated by Team Magic.

One more vote for no PAFO. Or if you're going to make it PAFO, then I'd like to see a 3 month PREVIEW where we can mix and match, drop and add, and in general try everything out before we make the final decision.

A brand new barbarian starting from scratch won't have nearly as many issues, but those of us over 100+ will need some time to sort through the different changes AS IF we had been brand new and coming up through the ranks.

PAFO has never made sense to me. I can understand on some things, but a lot of things we've been told PAFO didn't make sense.

If the Barbarian abilities are going to be broken down khri-style, we will probably receive a "map" of the abilities, including circle requirements and prerequisites and such (if any apply). Thieves did when they got new khri.

I'd also be shocked if there wasn't a one-week general preview.

PAFO has its uses, but I would not get too anxious about having to pick abilities blind. General previews, more detailed ability descriptions and the limited unlearning of abilities are more reasonable assumptions.

<<BMR was an offset Barbarians finagled in ye distant past for simply not having abilities. They were supposed to eschew booster stuff and in return be powerful against other people's mojo. Thieves and Traders don't have magical shielding spells but there was no TMR.

Given Barbarians have a full suite of abilities the original logic of BMR is kinda funky at this point and time, and it doesn't work very well mechanistically except for Barbarians in a tiny spectrum.

Anyway, all guilds that want it will have a form of Active MR instead of passive.

-Z >> above posted by GM Zeyurn

So okay we have a full suite of abilities.. but our entire suite of abilities are in need of work. Can we be assured to see some fixes by the time Magic 3.0 comes out? Or maybe at least a firmer outline of what the plan is for us? It's a huge task I'm sure so Kodius we are all counting on ya! No pressure now heheh!

I am kind of liking the sounds of things. I do have concerns that our abilities are going to feel piecemeal and mild. I hope the difference between berserks and forms is more than just what skills they boost. The original reason for the drawbacks to berserks is that they were supposed to be very powerful and I think that way of thinking may still deserve some consideration; not turned into abilities that are just nice and conveinent for someone to incorporate into their combat script.

There's no TMR, but Thieves and Traders weren't penalized for learning magic either. Barbs are.

We will do our best to coordinate the overhaul of barbarian abilities with the release of Magic 3.0. I am very happy to say the new magic system is being designed from the ground up with barbarian abilities in mind. This is in comparison to the current system where so many interactions were tacked on after the fact, never really working in a balanced manner.

Can you elaborate on what you meant about choosing paths? Do you mean it's either dances or berserks, not both? Or just different stats boost diff abilities?

Probably something along the lines of being able to choose X number of abilities, but having X+Y to choose from.

Probably means that you can be okay a all of those things, or Master of one.

Which is fine with me as long as the abilities are explained before we have to choose/re-choose them.

Just like every other guild in the game, only instead of Aether Book, Water Book, Fire Book we'll have Berserks and dances (and maybe roars?), and you'll get to choose a new ability every 3 circles - or something like that.

I will wait and see what comes with BMR, as I have been waiting to see what comes with forging.

PAFO is an interesting concept. As a 130th circle barbarian I should not have to PAFO anything a 130th cricle barbarian would have been using most of his life. Most will admit I am a top WeaponsSmith. PAFO is not something ANY top smith should have to do.

PAFO for a brand new meditation (or spell for those magic users) that is just discovered is reasonable, PAFO for a change to melee combat, BMR, berserks, dances and roars is not.
