Having just got back from an extended vacation I am trying to find new hunting grounds. I have used the "What to Hunt Guide" without much success I must add. From what I saw on the guide I should be able to hunt Blood Wolves but if two came in the room I was toast. I've moved back down to the crossing for now but any advice of what I should be training and where would be greatly appreciated.

Cougars, 3 at a time. Wood trolls, kelpies cougars and boars in Theren. Thunder rams in Theren (with the occasional blood wolf thrown in), Meadow sheep and Crayfish in Haven, Rock Trolls in Kaerna and Shard, Crocodiles, Fire sprites. These are off the cuff, others have better lists. The What to Hunt list in the critter folders is a good reference.

dusk ogres in the tunnels near haven would work wonders for you. They drop coins and boxes. Watch out for the occasional wolf spider, and stay south of the squeeze tunnel where you have to crawl through.

Is there a reason nobody mentioned sand sprites? Will work you excellently. They're on ratha.

sandies swarm to much you'd get killed ....
if ya cant handle 2 pups i reccommend capping eels and 3 cougars at a time then you'll be all set for pups .... also with pups be careful what room you are in theres one room in particular that is super swarmy (The Refuge) the room one west from is ideal for starting there as it has decent gen rate and wont get too swarmy for ya

Yeah I would think that would be pretty close to the sweet spot on sprites....I think I started around 60 ranks and started in the slower rooms there in sand sprites. They taught really well.

Yeah. Sprites hit like girls! He has more danger of dieing from cougars/eels then he does in Sandies. Sandies on Ratha are where you really want to think about going. They will teach everything for quite sometime. After those you can go straight to pups or vines/creepers(with some caution). Good luck.

He's at dilettante in everything (100+ ranks). Sandies only teach to about 90. Silver leucs would be the place to be in Ratha, but he should really be in vines/creepers (like he is now), which will teach well till about 130.

Sprites teach past 90's. I can go in the Lair and lock my armors and both my weapons in less than 10 minutes. But he might be better in silver leucros, and yes my weapons are in the 90's

Yeah. Sprites are gonna hard cap pretty soon. Not so much for armor, definitely not for multi until about the 120s, but once you hit 105 or so creepers are exactly like the sand sprite swarms and they have a cap that's about 35 ranks higher.

Just to clarify, I got my multi to 115 in the sprite lair. However, it took days to get ranks. Wearing HP helped but, really isn't worth it.

Which guild are you? That, IMAO (In My Arrogant Opinion) plays quite a factor in what you can & should be hunting. Exempli gratia, shadowmasters on Taisgath are essentially a Moon Mage only critter; a lot of the undead are Cleric critters. Yadda yadda.

You should do fine in sand sprites on Ratha. Yes, they swarm, but so what? The trick is to find hunting partners, which Ratha produces like the plague, charm an Empath or three, and become an ace at getting out fast the moment you start to get into trouble.

Other hunting advice you need (welcome home!) is that you should train MO like your primary defense and, lastima de decir (sad to say), shield is, hands down, the best defensive skill unless you hunt somewhere the critters don't swarm.

Welcome back, and when you come to Ratha, holler at Me and I'll get you your complimentary Barbarian fluff item from the vault of things I'm just too do bloody lazy to auction.<g>

what I've found when looking at some of the What to Hunt Lists is to subtract 10 - 20 ranks off the soft cap for my barbarians. I've noticed that effective learning rates at greatly decline around 10-20 ranks below the cap for weapon primes(ie barbs) as opposed to non weapon primes who can learn upto and oft times well beyond the posted soft caps.

As far as sand sprites go though ... they will definately increase ur multi and if the swarm concearns you know that they hit like sissy girls so u can shrug off most of it.
If u need to bring multi up id suggest eels bone wolves and blood wolves as well.

This is how experience seems to go for Navak, keep in mind he is 2HE prime so he is doing a lot of damage. This is when using melee as an example since I've never really had this problem with ranged, ranged just seems to go from little to no experience -> good -> best -> some -> little to no.

Little to no experience (missing/grazing/light hits etc...)
Some experience (good hits and a bit harder)
Good Experience (consistent heavy/very heavy hits)
Best Experience (consistent very heavy/awesome hits that last 2-3 hits)
Some Experience (consistent very heavy/awesome hits that last 1-2 hits)
Little experience (mostly one-hits)
Some experience (extreme overkill and usually I only notice this when using something like my greatsword)
Little to no experience

I'd go with Denz's advice.

If you're hunting sand sprites and get overwhelmed by multiple opponents, consider fighting back using your tools at your disposal. Berserk (since you are usually in water there) blood and stone would work well in there, along with some early roars you may or may not have learned (use warpaint if you have that to help you here).

Initiate the berserk while in combat and utilize your roar at melee range. With berserk blood and berserk stone working, you should be doing pretty well against the sand sprites if you are using a melee/pole-ranged weapon.

Try to initilize berserk blood while in combat against the sand sprites. It'll be the fuel that continues your hunt, as you are gaining inner fire from each killing blow with a weapon that will teach you (mainly, you're gonna be noticing the melee offensive skill boost in affect, but since you are probably a younger character, the strength boost will help you out as well with reduction in roundtimes). Than initilize berserk stone while in combat against the sand sprites. It'll help you out defensively by allowing you to sustain damage from being overwhelmed at times from the hunt against sand sprites.

You won't notice when berserk blood ends (as you only get messaging when all berserks consumed within you end in finality), so just berserk blood when you are noticing your not hitting them on par with what you had noticed while berserk blood was in affect. Keep those two berserks up and make sure you are maintaining a decent amount of inner fire with you so that you don't collapse while in combat due to lack of inner fire while the berserks end.

Try to rotate weapons when your weapons do reach around perplexed or bewildering and at the same time make sure you are training your defensive skills and armors heavily.

Hmm, why perplexing and bewildering and not higher?

I think there is only like one room with water. I usually only hunt in the front where there definitely is none. I would love for there to be some notification when you lose a berserk.
