Not sure if this has been discussed previously, but are there any good ideas out there how to train mech lore? I've been braiding grass a lot, but that isn't teaching very well anymore. What sort of technique progression should I follow for training the skill?

How much skill do you have? My trader in Plat learns pretty well by braiding vines until she gets the wasted effort message- then sh pulls her vines and starts a new braid.

Vines do seem to teach longer. But you might want to try adding more grass first, if your foraging skill isn't up to vines yet- Especially in winter.
Of course- The trader has another reason for using the vines. Grass=Donkey chow! ;)

Wayard pyramids are a great way to train mech lore. You can carry them either in a canvas bag from any general store or if you have a rucksack tied to the straps. Fill them with herbs, drop and go. Great thing is you can learn from it while doing other things, even more grass braiding if you really want to focus. I usually lock my foraging and first aid via compedium while the pyramid works my mech.
Another option is oragami. Use an oragami calculator (like: http://www.worldofelanthia.com/index.php?page=11 ) to figure out what's best to fold. This will also train your scholarship.

If you're into foraging, consider carving the woods you forage if it's IC to do so. Carving staves(from regular branches) teaches to about 90 pretty well. It's also fun to carve bows(wood limbs) though you'll have to get in longbow(20) or shortbow(10) lessons before you can do that. It's a way to go if you don't like to nursing a pyramid or multiple pyramids or mindlessly folding paper or endlessly braiding grass. Probably not the most efficient if you're looking for that, but you can pawn the staves to help suppliment your income.
