Found another way to lose a wolf : ( on 05/20/2008 02:41 PM CDT
Hi, found another way to lose a wolf. Don't try to take it into Tomma's guild down near Shard. My wolf had been fed recently, wasn't whimpering pacing and I went into the guild and poof, no wolf. No warning. So sad. :' (
Zinaca---onto Lucky 4, when I get back to Crossings. Might be a while though. ::snifles::

If I loose my first wolf, I am going to wipe out the wolf pack near Crossing. Or at the very least get wolves and starve them to death on purpose. I am getting angry with them.
I gotta ask. Where our companions always this broke or did something break them. And if they were always broke, how the heck did they get past the quality testers?

The system is an old one that hasn't been revised. I think we all thought it really exciting when it first came out. Obviously, it could use more than a bit of work now. : )

Fortunately, you do not need to have a companion. Since we've been told, I believe, that the system isn't being worked on--and won't be worked on in the foreseeable future, you can just ignore companions. They function as well as they always did--as a roleplaying tool

Not me. I'd want a figurine. A black one I can throw down, with a really large hunting cat kept somewhere within that comes when I call it.
J'Lo, I'm a ranger.. I'd believe anything.....

Isn't that identical to a magical item dark-elf-superhero-that-everybody-copies had?

No, but it is tantalizingly similar. For instance, my would be named Felix, would be rare-color tiger, and would not judge me conscientiously.

new wolf problems on 01/05/2009 11:32 AM CST
Ok so I lost my wolf the other day and have been trying to get another one. I have above and beyond all the requirements based on stats and skills. I go out to ogres get my milk, kneel, and wait and everytime the pack comes out and growls at me. I went to every province and checked with the guards and for debt, not wanted anywhere. Still the pack growls at me. I do know before the new justice went into effect I was wanted in crossings, but now am not. I did get myself arrested under the new system though to try and clear that up just to see if maybe the board was incorrect but it did me no good. Am starting to believe that possiblly somehow the warrant that dissapeared with the onset of the new justice is somehow screwwing up me getting a new wolf or am i doing something wrong, its only been about 4 years since I got my last wolf.

Are you bleeding by chance? That will turn away wolves as well. Or poor bonus, or did you murder your wolf and now they just hate you.

Getting A wolf issue on 09/02/2009 10:58 AM CDT
Every time? Yea Every time I get a wolf when I signal it to sleep for the first time, I can't get it back and have to assist and ask the gm's to help a honky out. Here is a log from yesterday.
>A baby wolf sniffs the air and yaps!
>Afura holds a darkened steel armband set with a row of jagged cambrinth chunks in both hands and closes his eyes in concentration.
>feed milk to wolf
You need to be holding the food in your hand.
>signal wolf sleep
You signal to your baby wolf.
The baby wolf wanders off to find a quiet place to sleep.
>whistle for wolf
* An error has occured * Please type ASSIST for a host or GM to help you!
>whistle for wolf
* An error has occured * Please type ASSIST for a host or GM to help you!
>Afura gestures.
Afura's cambrinth armband emits a loud snap.
>Afura closes his eyes and breathes deeply.
You recognize the spell as Wisdom of the Pack.
>Mvorn imparts some of his Skinning knowledge to you, and you feel that the precepts are slowly beginning to sink in.
>Sefar continues to hum a quiet lament with only the slightest hint of difficulty.
>Afura holds a darkened steel armband set with a row of jagged cambrinth chunks in both hands and closes his eyes in concentration.
>assist request * An error has occured * Please type ASSIST for a host or GM to help you!You are now in the assist queue.
Use Assist Position to check your place in the queue.
To cancel your assist, type Assist Cancel at any time.
> * Kryeus has disconnected.
So whats the deal with that? Is it just my character or does anybody else have that problem?

Try 'whistle wol'. In my experience, 'whistle' plus any three letters following will call a companion. Heck, I still 'whistle rac' to get my wolf.
Too many times I've tried to whistle at Nilerbone ('whistle nil') and get the wolf.
Master Craftsman Thryntyrlz BagMaker steps out from under Caelfind's road-worn traveler's cloak.
Tvini gets a Nilerbone brain from inside her canvas sack.
Tvini pokes her Nilerbone brain.
Nilerbone sneezes!

Not much at this point. The right wheels are turning on the back end of things to get some things done such that I/we can start taking a look at companions / companion rewrite / etc.
If there was any time for suggestions, though, now / this year would probably be that time.

Have some means of saving the state of the companion on the player character and even when the companion is lost, the state isn't lost until you replace the companion.
This would allow GMs and GHs to restore companions lost to system crashes, unreasonable/incompatible mechanics, and bugs.
Is it a safe assumption that all non-necromancer pets will be inferior to necromancer pets at equivalent skill?
Can anything be revealed about where companions stand in the hierarchy of pet capabilities?
Is there any consideration for the time investment in companions for their capabilities compared with other pets? If not, can we just get companions fully grown?
Will we ever be able to have more than one type of companion at a time? Say companions are divided by size, would we be able to have a small companion and a large companion at the same time, assuming we had the necessary skills/stats to do so?
Will we be able to use companions in combat? If no, will they be able to have a support role in combat, such as pulling us out of combat if we are stunned or grabbing our dropped weapon if we die?
