Sleeper slumps to the ground and immediately falls asleep. He must have been exhausted!
>diag sleeper
Sleeper awakens startled.
Roundtime: 3 sec.
With a practiced eye, you glance over Sleeper:
He is in perfect health.

There's nothing in the plain DIAGNOSE messaging (as opposed to DIAGNOSE FULL) that should wake up someone who's sleeping. You're just glancing them over, not making any contact.

Your baleful eye has quite the presence!

How about APPRAISE?

So far as I know, the main difference of these two verbs is one is silent (APPRAISE) and the other (DIAGNOSE) lets people in the room know you're checking their health with a message.

Sure, functionally the are the same thing, but if people can tell you're checking them (including the target), it may reasonably be assumed to be 'invasive' enough that it wakes them up.

I always use APPRAISE and not DIAGNOSE, so I may be off base here (maybe they are already clones, but I don't think so). Also I don't know for sure if APPRAISE doesn't wake up someone sleeping, but could be worth testing. So long as they are not clones, it probably makes sense for them to remain distinct?

One is used by clerics to see how many Spirit the deader has, and one is used with the 'full' variable to get the details about what's wrong with the deader.

Yes, I know. That's why I used DIAGNOSE. It's a useless verb apart from the messaging. It tells you less than you can see from just looking at them. You get "healthy", "injured", "injured and bleeding", or "dead", IIRC. No other details.

I don't normally keep tabs on this folder, so I know I'm late on this..

I've always found DIAGNOSE FULL to be less useful then APPRAISE with my empath, esp with access to Trolls Blood and really short RTs on healing spells. Even without 1125, I never really care about the HP or bandage status enough to put myself into 5 sec of hard RT... I can honestly get a better idea of what's going on faster with the healing window that pops up with APPRAISE in Stormfront (I think it opens with DIAGNOSE also... but not worth the RT).

Now my cleric, on the other hand, would absolutely love being able to DIAG FULL since there's rarely an empath around when he's raising a body. Sadly, it's going to be quite a while before he can do that.

'diag full' takes a whole ten (10) ranks of First Aid training; spring for a few points. :)
