I understand why AsG change upward services are rare, as they lead to a much higher armor value on the open market. But I don't see a similar rationale for AsG downward changes. I post this as a non-standard build player, whose characters tend to use partial armors. The issue is, the availability of high-end (or even medium range, i.e. 4x-7x enchant /w critical padding) partial armor outside of full leather is almost non-existent. It would be great to be able to buy one of the many sets of medium to high end full coverage armors out there and be able to take it to the NPC armorer to have the legs and arms chopped off, with the understanding that this is a one way change barring an uber-rare AsG upward change service.

Since you're looking at it, I am kind of liking the idea of services that are only allowed for partial armors: flaring, padding, resistances, spikes, etc. You could do some things you might be less inclined to do for total armors. Also, in the same vein, one thing I'd like to see that's perhaps of limited appeal is modifying helms into greathelms, and thereby adding neck coverage.

I'm going to agree with Kerl on this one. Services or even special releases of partial rigid, chain, and plate armors would be awesome. There are plenty of reasons to pick armor that is not fulls/doubles/brig/hauberk/FP, but there is often a severe lack of good sets. If there is a truly even one end game set of augmented breastplate anywhere in gemstone, I have not seen it.
