Last night I asked Fara for a task and she wanted something like six jaguar pelts. I might be mistaken, but weren't these a special invasion or quest animal?

it must not be only weapons. fara tried to give me a kill boss task involving celepeze.
um.... my highest wewapon is only 306. i have no reason to commit suicide. Although I CAN possibly kill 1 of them on a lucky day,....

This very much sounds like it's looking ONLY at weapons. Difficulties in hunting critters generally come from properties of the hunting area itself and your defenses.
So basically, if the celp were to just stand there while you beat on it it'd probably be within your skill range based only on whether an attack can land.

Task update suggestion on 08/05/2007 10:46 PM CDT
I'm not sure this is really intended to happen exactly this way since the tasks are pretty much unlimited in nature (as opposed to being cut off after a certain amount of money has been paid), but I can do a few get me X items task from Mags to get an idea of what he's going to ask me to get for him and then spend the next hour (actually I think it's less than half an hour, but still) scripting up 500ish of those things as fast as the game lets me. I can then take all those items back to Mags and then feed them to him as fast as I can ask for and complete tasks from him.
Someone (Denz, maybe?) mentioned timers and possibly being able to rack up 4 plat an hour, maybe I can beat that record. ;)

Group Tasks on 08/06/2007 07:49 AM CDT
Would it be possible in the future to implement something like group tasks, where if you're in a group when you ask someone for a task they will give the whole group a larger task? This would be really fun for boss battles and "find x" tasks where you can collaborate your resources together with other players.

Task Givers and Task Locations on 08/06/2007 07:55 AM CDT
I don't know if this would be feasible, but I don't think it makes much sense for someone located in Crossings to be giving kill tasks all the way out in M'riss or further.
Do you think it would be possible to have kill tasks localized so that task givers will assign kill tasks based on the monster that closest matches your fighting level in the province they are located in?

I really don't think this is a huge issue, simply because you don't have to accept any task you think is too difficult. I do wish the further travel task rewarded a bit better.

Several points for Task masters! on 08/06/2007 08:32 AM CDT
1. I looove the whole concept of the task system. It is fantastic!
2. I especially love that it gets you to travel and explore. In fact, I wish there was a downside to refusing a task so people have more incentive to take the first one offered rather than just scrolling through until they get one they know/like.
3. The rewards right now are not appropriate for my level so for the time being I won't be doing any tasks other than just for a little change of pace from time to time. I certainly think the harder the difficulty in skill, in number of kills/items, the distance in travel... the greater the reward should be. I imagine that is all planned for the future.
4. A small issue I found with atik'et, and potentially all tiered creatures: When I was getting a boss task from Anthelorm he gave me skill-appropriate options of celpeze, trekhalos, hunters, something on Hara'jaal (I forget), and 1st tier atik*'*ets. The atik'ets are way below my level, but were also the only choice on the mainland so I took it. He MAY have meant to give me 3rd tier atik'ets, which are still below my level but much, much closer than 1st tiers.
5. I think the kill/boss tasks should be for creatures that are slightly stronger than our combat skills would indicate because, a) You're going to complete a task, not just to hunt, and b) Most people have abilities that can boost them up or take down targets much higher than just their base combat skills. I've been saying for probably the past 2 years now I could probably kill just about anything in the game if I put my mind to it, but there are lots of creatures I couldn't even remotely "hunt" for training. Oh, and c) if it is just too tough you could get a friend to help or someone to hire (I wouldn't mind working as a mercenary!).

I found in plat that I would get a task to deliver to the trader guild leader but I was not allowed up the stairs to where the guild leader is located. No clue if that is the same in prime since I haven't tried it out in prime. After the one time trying, I just stopped accepting any deliveries for the trader guild.

Re: Task Givers and Task Locations on 08/06/2007 10:45 AM CDT
Please note that other than a basic adjustment for the delivery tasks, there is currently no additional award for longer distance travel (not that there won't be, but that there currently isn't).
Also, the money is not currently at its final level. It was more to have a general idea to make sure that the awarding mechanics are working correctly. This is still definitely a "beta" release. While some tasks are pretty much done (delivery, e.g.), others are still definitely in progress (kill critters, foraging, skins/pelts) and there is a major bug in the Kill Boss task that means the bosses are not spawning as powerful as they should be.
I'll be speaking with Bubba, Ssra and Dartenian about a timer. What I'm envisioning wouldn't necessarily be a "so many per hour, then no more", but a timer that would reduce the amount of money you get from each successive completion.

If there is a "Timer" put in place, then could the bounty for the task be given beforehand. Not the actual money but a rough idea if one will give you.

Actually, it would.
Last night, I had a novice char given a task of retrieving an item from a critter that was just a bit too strong for her. So she went to where she knew the stronger people gathered and placed her dilemma before them. One volunteered to help her. It made for a very nice little RP!

Relating to Boss Tasks.
Every single Boss Task or kill task I get, sends me to Ratah or Aesry. I don't want to take an hour trip to the islands then have to come back if the reward is small. More mainland kill tasks would be excellent.

It would be far too system-intensive to keep track of that. You'd have to have a timestamp put on every single skin and foraged item in the game to mark when it was created.

Couple patterns thare are bugging me:
my char is only offered bloodwood Foraging tasks, and i'm in Crossings/Haven.
Only monsters I am asked to kill are either on Aesry (Unyns) or down in Shard (Gargoyales), when there's perfectly good substitutes in Theren/Monastary areas.
Despite the kill quests being minimum 20 min travel, all skinning requests have been.. goblins or eels 90% of the time, then 10% of the time I'm ask to get azumos? i'm not even sure what that is.. and very rare crocs. Surely the options frequency could be either scaled better to combat level or made even.
Waaaay too many delivery quests.
EVERYONE wants to deliver to the beggar, in crossings, regardless of who you ask. Why the heck is he so popular!?

I was able to tackle a GM with more foraging knowledge than myself, and I will be expanding that task in the next few days.
Right now, the foraging task only has four forageable choices. Hence why everyone over a certain amount of foraging gets...bloodwood sticks. All the time.

Does this mean the foraging tasks will randomize like the kill tasks, or will we just step item-by-item up the list as we gain ranks (ie, berries at 0, rocks at 3, sticks at 5, etc)?

Re: Task Verbs on 08/07/2007 04:58 PM CDT
If you have to go recover an item from a critter, any of the various commands that result in a kill (ie, ATTACK). The chance of the item being found is automatically handled on the death of the critter, so unless you're wanting the loot there's no need to do anything else to the critter.
If you have to go find an item in a specific location, the command is SEARCH. If you are in the right area, it will give you a different message that relates to the generic task item; if you're in the wrong place, it will auto-default to the normal search mechanics related to finding hidden paths and people hiding in the shadows. KNEEL makes it easier to find, but doesn't interfere with the above mechanics.
If you have to forage X of something, you just use FORAGE as normal as though you didn't have a task at all. FORAGE, FORAGE CAREFUL, FORAGE PRECISE, or COLLECT. It really doesn't matter which method you use, so long as you end up with the specified item.
If you have to deliver something, to complete the task you GIVE (item name) TO (item recipient). GIVE (item) doesn't work.
Boss tasks are just variations of the recovery tasks, except that instead of an item appearing you get a chance to generate a boss critter. There's a bug with this one (might have just gotten fixed) wherein the boss was generating at the same power levels as the normal critters, however, so do be careful.

::LOL!:: I never met a claw troll of the wooden variety, but I remember the rocky ones! In fact, one of them accounted for my first death. Needless to say, I loved scaring the britches off of them later. And fresh troll leg- Yum yum!

Not exactly right, J'Lo...
When on a search task.. you need to KNEEL to search to satisfy the task requirements. If you kneel and search in the correct area you should get appropriate messaging. Standing and searching will work as it normally does.
Obseden said at Con he did this to get around the normal SEARCH commands so they would still work for task goers.

Yep Yep...
You MUST kneel and search if your are doing the searching item retrieval tasks. Otherwise you are stuck doing normal searches.
And there is not a different message in your task searches..unless you find the item of course...
