I saw it, I just haven't yet had enough time to devote in game to remedying the situation.

Hey Tiesse,
I've been playing around with the new task system additions and have a concern. (This is for Prime).
I've always used the task system to get some extra starting cash for my new characters. I usually just go to Annael to get the easy gifting tasks (run here;give present) which are quick and simple to complete.
However, with all the extra task givers added to the system, I now find that nearly 75% of the tasks that Annael is giving me are for far-flung locations like Ratha, Ain or Hib. For new players, this seems like it defeats the point of the task - to explore the city, find landmarks and earn some extra cash.
Could there possibly be one or two task givers in the Crossing who only offer tasks to other locations in the area? This would help mentors, older players steer new players to a task giver that has simple tasks to complete, rather than having them run halfway across the game for 5 silver.
Thanks for the updates!

I'll be making some tweaks to the system soonish (caught up in something more time sensitive at the moment). One thing that I will probably need to scale up is the distance modifications since the furthest we've gone so far is Riverhaven to The Crossing.

Is it possible while you're in there, to make only certain NPC's give tasks that require you to leave the province or the mainland?
The compensation calculations aside, I don't think it is appropriate for Annael to be sending a circle 0 commoner or circle 1 Empath to Shard to deliver a package to a disreputable pawn shop owner for a few silvers.
I think that the Crossings Guild Leaders should only give in-province tasks, or maybe have them check someone's circle to determine if they are experienced enough for inter-provincial tasks.
Thanks!

i wouldn't qualify it by circle but rather by total skill. There are certainly commoners out there that are capable of that sort of thing.

i only take 'em when i'm going to that province anyway, so they are like a refund of my ferry fare. <or in the case of characters that can swim there, free money> Particularly since there's no time limit on them, if my trader has an interprov to deliver to haven, he'll accept a task to haven. Since being paid to go from one point to another is basically the gist of being a trader anyway. :-)

I agree with both of these.
I also think the money pay-out should be scaled way, way up. I don't think being able to make, say, 5 plat a day from tasks (then get cut off until the next day) would be a bad thing at all.

Non-Local Delivery Tasks are a Problem. on 11/24/2009 11:23 PM CST
The task system is very important system for noobs, to earn money and learn their way around the city.
Does anyone every actually do delivery tasks to other cities? Other than one time just to see how much it pays?
I would like to suggest that delivery tasks be limited to the same city only. The recent addition of far-flung task givers has made the system a lot more difficult for noobs to use. One yesterday seemed to have gotten tasks to Hara'jaal, Mer'kresh, Shard, and Throne city, without one Crossing task.
If nothing else, if some NPCs could be made local-only, or some distance-only, or something, that would be nice.
The system has been made a lot more difficult for noobs to use with the introduction of the far-flung task givers.
Please consider my suggestion.

the most i've gotten for a long-distance task was 8 silver. but then it might be set differently in plat, because of JJ.

Island Tasks on 01/20/2010 05:47 PM CST
Re: Island Tasks on 01/20/2010 11:05 PM CST
my 4th circle MM asked for tasks and the first one tried to send him on a task to ratha. the following 2 tried to send him to hara'jaal. seriously something wrong with this, even when he could theoretically use JJ to get there, its a bit warped to try to send a 4th circle character to hara'jaal.
and his very first boss task was a shiprat. fine. the 2nd time he asked for a boss task anthelorem tried to send him to kill a wind hound. seriously. this system needs to be properly scaled.

Advanced Tasks on 02/15/2011 05:17 PM CST
I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but I think it would be cool to expand upon the task system. As players become more experienced or higher circles, they could gain advanced tasks that bring them into more dangerous areas, do more creative things. Something Powerhaus said in another folder made me think maybe you could do a task FOR some of the "bad" guys like the DP's or whatever by either delivering them supplies from shady NPC's or what have you. What are the chances of that ever happening?
I think it would give players more a sense of adventure, something to work for, something to break up the hum drum of day to day play when there isn't a lot of opportunity to RP with other players. Or for some of us who live in more remote area's, it might give us something extra to do.
Just a thought, I don't have any real issues with how the game is run right now I just think that would be pretty fun.

Re: Advanced Tasks on 02/15/2011 05:38 PM CST
I dunno. I've never done a task, don't know how to get a task, but even if I did, I can't think of a reason why I would want to do one. I've heard of the task system, but never felt any urge to participate in it. What's the purpose for tasks? Like I said, I've heard of them, I just have absolutely no idea what they're for.

Re: Advanced Tasks on 02/15/2011 05:47 PM CST
I'd really like to see more types of tasks. The go kill this creature, or go deliver this box tasks are kind of dull after a while. The go find this object tasks are more interesting, and more advanced this like that would be neat. Maybe akin to the treasure map system, NPC gives you a map to where they lost something, then you have to wander around the area looking for it. Return it to NPC for your reward.
I think the prizes need to change drastically for advanced tasks. After 20th or so, the monetary rewards from tasks are kind of pointless for the amount of time they take. It would be cool if this could be linked into systems like Devotion/Reputation/Soul. You get good feelings for helping people out and such. Maybe the NPC offers you a neat item like the extra item seen in treasure map boxes, and if you turn it down you get a boost to your respective pool.

Right now they're mostly an easy way to get coin when you're young. I think Thieves can get reputation for them if they get them from Thiefly NPCs.

This.
>>I don't know what the task system is all about, why would I want to use it?
Well, right now it is set up as basically an alternate way for younger players to make money and get accustomed to the lay of the land. They get the tasks from NPC's such as people you see around town and guild leaders and when they complete the tasks, they get coins and I believe that's the only reward. My experience with the system is limited as it came out after I would have had need of it. But Opieus commented on exactly what I was thinking and should have elaborated on. I could see it as being like the treasure system. But since you can do tasks at will, there would just be a random chance for an amazing treasure. Otherwise, either high cash rewards, reputation rewards in the form of curing or damaging social outrage, or guild reputation, or whatever. Maybe an RPA? Whatever it is, I think it would be pretty fun.

Group-enabled Instanced Tasks please :(
Ask for a task while you're in a group and you all get to go defeat a mini quest boss or something or locate and object or investigate some bit of lore in the game.
Right now the only thing I can do with friends it seems is hunt(backtrain) with them, sit around to chat or engage in CvC activities. I would like more to do within groups please.

Re: Advanced Tasks on 02/18/2011 09:08 AM CST
an overhaul of the task system is needed first.
It still hasn't been fixed - i.e. if you get a boss task to hatchlings, the things still generate already dead. I mean, that's fine if you're a necromancer, but it doesn't give you credit for having done the deed. :-)
