has anyone tested with a forage task on herbs that are obtainable via the herb shops if its possible to steal the herb and give it rather than forage it?

theres also one other thing with the boss critters, a small typo of the same sort that appeared back when Ssra was making critters hide in combat.

when i was doing the peccary one, it genned as _name peccary, with the __ representing a space before the name of the critter.

Okay, that's freaking bizarre.

If someone has been assigned to kill jaguars, can you please let me know? I just checked over all of the possible critters and none of them show as being a jaguar. Doesn't mean it's not there, but it means it may be getting mis-set somewhere.

Jaguars were a special critter if i remember right. Used at some sort of premie release.

It was in plat, if it matters. I've gotten it 3 or 4 times now. Want me to accept it and let you know next time? I just keep declining them.

As long as it's exactly the item being asked for, it doesn't matter where, how, when, or why you got your hands on it. If you want to steal, you can steal. If you want to grub in the dirt, you can forage. If you want to clean out the 7 years of crap in your vault, clean out your vault. If your best friend was able to attend some event where those items just magically fell out of the sky 6 years ago and he's still rubbing it in that you couldn't go, knock him upside the head, grab the items, and turn them in.

GR-flagged items and other special situations where GMs generally want you to keep ahold of the item for some duration may or may not interfere with the task completion, however.

I've gotten the jaguar pelt tasks in Prime, as well, from Fara, and I think the minstrel and beggar. I just declined each time. If I get the task again, I'll post.

Found it (helps to look at the right task).

Those should now be looking for cougar pelts. If you currently have the task, no need to drop, it will automatically switch over.

Here are some numbers based on the methods I'm using and which I spoke of in the post I made. The following is strictly based off what I have personally done with Mags and his foraging tasks, using a circle 1 cleric with 11 ranks of foraging.

1)he'll only ask you to find twigs (this will soon change as he updates the foraging tasks to take better advantage of the full range of forageable items, so we'll probably end up with groups of items similar to how the Compendium divides them)

2)he'll ask you to find anywhere from 3 to 22 (maybe a few more), with the average being something like 8-15

3)minimum payment is around 116 copper, maximum is 445 or so

4)it takes me anywhere from 42 minutes to 59 minutes to forage 500 twigs using FORAGE TWIG exclusively (this time includes the use of STOW), depending on what my actual RTs are (42 = all 4-second RTs, 59 = all 6-second RTs)

5)were I to do nothing but accept tasks and give Mags the 500 items, it'd only take me 10 minutes to do so (includes time for bank runs)

6)Using the various larger containers (duffel bags, backpacks, etc), I estimate I have the raw ability (without having to stuff anything into the vault) to physically hold at least 2000 items if not the full 3000 representing an hour's worth of task activity via #5. Because of safeguards built into the game, however, I'll never actually get anywhere close without a GM knowing about it and forcing me to dump them (via teleportation to the junk room) or simply destroying the character with massive data corruption merely from holding that many items.

7)based on the unrealistic and possibly artificially-prevented-via-code worst/best possible cases as defined by the extremes listed in #3, the absolute least I can actually make is 5.5625 plat per hour and the absolute most is roughly 10 plat per hour. Again, Obseden and the GMs have probably accounted for this in terms of probabilities and randomization so while this might be technically possible I really doubt anyone will see this sort of return (we'll all be somewhere in the middle).

8)as the amount of items per task rises, the rate of return decreases (the 5.5 plat referenced in #7 was based on 125 tasks asking for 24 items per task, and the 10 plat was based on something like 1000 tasks asking for 3 items per task.) This may also be accounted for if the items asked for rises as you rank, but I don't know the rate at which this might occur so it might go quickly or it might go slow enough to watch the coin-count drop.

additionally, delivery tasks may "pay more", but skinning tasks could be tweaked in the opposite direction.

Because if i bring fara x skins, i can definately make more coin by selling the skins. particualy when she asks for anything about bloodwolf or croc level skins. Obviously I wouldn't even bother doing a skinning task with my ranger <who has arrange>.

Additionally, the skinning tasks need to be geared more to the skill of the character. They were way too easy. Goblin skins for my trader <70s skinning> Eel skins for one of my barbs (158 skinning>. Serpent skins for my thief <270 skinning>. Way too easy and the payout too low.

Yes, at first I was getting like 615ish as a high, but recently it's jumped up to almost 650.

I'm really sorry to see that folks are scripting this to make ridiculous amounts of coin.

Without scripting (athough using macros) I haven't been able to make more than about a plat and a half in a half hour that produces an intensive workout for both fingers and eyes (I also haven't been tempted to try for longer because this is exhausting!).

The plat and a half for 30 minutes is still good coin.

I'd like to see the payout for each individual task not drop too much but to make it impossible to complete more than X number of tasks (5-10?) every X (3-8?) hours *in game*.

I've been scripting it in 5-10 minute runs earlier today to see what statistics play a role... so sorry for the scroll. I've yet to see anyone script it for a consistant period of time, and I've been checking particulary to see if anyone gets a thief to run it silently.

If you're worried about this ruining the game balance, I wouldn't... not unless it stays available for a few more weeks. People making 20 platinum on a single arrow was hurting the economy, so 20 platinum an hour is more of a minor snag compared to stuff like that.

People selling an arrow for 20 plat is not generating money -- it only moves money around.

An NPC giving you 20 plat adds wealth thus causing inflation resulting in a 20 plat arrow.

As the value of a plat goes down ... player prices go up.

Before even testing the system's gain via scripting. I was able to make something like 6-10 plat an hour TYPING. So its still pretty rediculous...

Ssra or Obseden or whathaveyou, on the list of priorities before the system goes live, is balancing it #1?

What else can we expect from this system?

I meant broken in the sense of an individual amassing wealth. But for straight up inflation, I'll use the example of Dobeks before their ruby drop rate was downtweaked. A ~50 moonmage with MB, SLS, CRS and CG could make hundreds of platinums a day without much trouble. There are still creatures like this, though nothing so exploitable that I know of.

Anyway, for the task system, I'd like to see a player offered maybe 2-3 tasks before the NPC says "All right, I see that you're not interested in helping me today." Then you wait until the next day to ask for a task. As in, you can either do all 2-3 or you can go through them and try to pick one closest/most convenient. The rewards for a single task would go up.

again, this would not only hurt the ones exploiting it, but also those that are offered tasks that are the same...for instance i had to go through about 10 times mo wanted me to go kill celepeze before i got him to ask me to kill wir dinegos instead.

i don't like going to m'riss and getting that tail pull for a 10 sec rt especially in combat.

I see the difference. Though so far noone I've seen has been scripting 24/7, but mostly late at night/early in the morning when there are few people/GMs around. Though, last night was pretty annoying. I taught for about an hour, left, came back an hour later to find 3 commoners (instead of 2). I made about a platinum total stealing from them, but that's really just chump change.

I thought about dragging the scripters through a moongate into a difficult swimming area or some area they couldn't get out of, like vipers, but A) they probably have drag avoid on or B) they'd just make another character and turn it on. Heh, I hate how powerful drag avoid is, even when I'm giving an example of why it was implemented. That and I imagine the system will be changed soon enough so why bother getting a warning?

So much for the fun game we played last night in the guild. Got to be fast to halt those suckers as they run through. After that you could walk them outside to release em again or just let them hang out until they disappeared. We had a few who got discouraged enough to leave the paladin guild out of their scripts.
