whatever this new task system is, how about having it give a paladin the ability to do some task/thing/whatever that will double his TM ranks. Allow it to be done up to three times but will not grant him more then 80% (or more ) of his highest magic skill. Once that % is hit, said paladin will no longer be able to gain ranks in this method.
Lets face it, not many are going to backtrain 300+ ranks to hunt on level but give us some options aside from the two fairly weak ones we have now: suck it up and backtrain or pray for grandfathering.
that's got to be other options you will all consider aside from here are 300-400 TM ranks or telling us we are SOL. I hate what you are doing to our spells but accept it for what it is worth aside from the fact that tons of stuff in this game aren't balanced so why do this now. THAT aside, let's put some more options on the table
might something like this even be mentioned to be on the table? What else can we think of that maybe we'll have to do some work but also get rewarded for due to this change?

If you're traveling out to the islands for the Kill tasks, you're probably not going to run into the timers more than a few times before that start dissipating.

I don't honestly see a point to this with the foraging quests:
They took awhile to begin with and really don't pay out too much.
The only real damage I can see don eis to people who are playing around with the delivery system...it hurts most others (like the kill bossers/kill creature people.)
On an unrelated note:
Why is foraging so difficult for survival tertiaries...I mean, christ, you should atleast be able to get to bewildeirng!

I can understand your frustration, but honestly, I know Empaths with more TM than most war mages. I know thieves and traders with TM in the hundreds (trained pre-MD changes).
It's not like there weren't ways to train it.
I don't foresee any grandfathering occurring. I'd be happy if it did, but not unhappy if it didn't.

There realistically weren't. P guild for years frowned upon ranged combat as we weren't supposed to be back line fighters. Couple that with shield + ranged being terrible until the shield changes and it's a fair request. I'm not asking for grandfathering, just some way to catch up my TM 300+ ranks so I can hunt with it at level. the 5+ months of backtraining we have are simply not enough and not even a realistic option for a tert skill.

Well maybe its slightly more plausible of a suggestion for Paladins. I think it'd be ridiculous for Empaths to get grandfathered TM though.

Boss Tasks on 08/21/2007 10:45 PM CDT
My task was to go kill atik'ets in the blasted plain, these are tier 1 atik'ets.
The boss atik'et that spawned, was something more like a beefed up cliff atik'et...which is the third (fourth) tier.
Also, each time a boss doesn't spawn would it be possible for it to message like...
"Despite your attack, <name of boss here> does not appear."
Just to be sure one is in the correct place and killing the correct creature.

interestingly enough, both places will generate the boss atiket.
at least they did under tasks 1.0.

The GIVE wonkiness I hadn't resolved yet, I need to see about tweaking that a bit.
I'll see about not giving the same task out twice in a row, but that adds a new layer of complexity.

and not having the 30 sec rt for 2 kill tasks would be nice too.
Additionally, if one goes all the way from haven to crossing <or vice versa> for a delivery task, to get another task you have to wait. That isn't so good either.
I DID like the reimbursement my MM got for killing some wind hounds. :-) being as nothing is otherwised gained from those things. It was nice.
And if Mo keeps trying to kill me by trying to send me to mer'kresh to kill 29 celepeze, i'ma gonna scream!

Re: Boss Tasks on 08/22/2007 08:53 AM CDT
It's not a roundtime, just a wait-time. You are perfectly able to go and turn in the skins, gems, pick the boxes, whatnot that you collected during the course of your visit.
In the long run, I think 30-seconds is not too long to wait.

Yeah, the skill-range might be skewed a little high unless there is a range like...
Little below - normal - little above with payouts graded on that scale.
I'm only getting three boss tasks now, atik'et boss (little below) Dinego boss (probably at level or so), and Celpeze boss (probably little to more than a little bit above).
Same with the kill tasks it seems.

I've been playing with the task system in Riverhaven the Moon Mage Guild Leader Gylwyn don't seem to have a clue what I'm talking about when I ask for a task.
Also too many of the tasks in the Riverhaven area are to take things to Crossing. That's a long way to walk for one task. It would be worthwhile if we could have multiple tasks to take to Crossing such as are the norm for contracts.
I do love the idea of a task system for youngersters though. It's a safe way to get to know the areas and earn a bit of money for equipment and such.

>> It would be worthwhile if we could have multiple tasks to take to Crossing such as are the norm for contracts. <<
Actually, not the norm.
"Interprov" contracts, meaning spans provinces, can only have ONE from each province at once.
And really, I don't think there is an interprov broker in Qi or P5, so that leaves 3 provs.
Brokers in Haven, Crossing and Shard.
So yes, a contract from haven to crossing, would be only ONE contract at a time. Though you can stop at say, dirge and other places and pick up more contracts that are no longer interprov.

I haven't had a chance to look at the new updates myself, but if that's the case, I can say that I'm pretty satisfied with the outcome.
The current use of the system that I see is for younger ones to have an excuse to explore, and forage, and hunt. Plus the added coin.
I also think I would take advantage of the inter province deliveries so I could have a ferry fare tucked away in my backpack, in the form of a package. :-D

I guess that would be true if the system didn't scale.
However, I don't really see many newbs running out to kill 20 Celpeze or fight a Malchata boss.

Task system bugs in TF on 10/14/2007 06:43 AM CDT
The following bugs in the task system were encountered in TF.
when asked for a task, barbarian guildleader MO in riverhaven doesn't seem to be set up.
>ask mo for task
Mo says, "Ya aren't a Barbarian, Kydosha. Stop yappin'." <kydosha is my cleric>
the rest of the riverhaven NPCs seem to be functioning as intended.
In crossing...
Guildleader Annael <empath> doesn't appear to be functioning for tasks. <this was with my empath Bashful>
>ask annael for task
The Annael Ebeshalek says to you, "I'm sorry, I didn't catch that. Could you maybe rephrase what you said?"
the rest of the crossing NPCs appear to be functioning, including Kalag the Black who is still alive in TF. :-)

the following are supposed to give tasks in crossing:
mags, minstrel, beggar, urchin, agonar, kalag <while he's still alive in tf- only thieves of course>,gauthus, kssarh, kalika, verika, silvyrfrost, and annael. the trader and cleric guildleaders don't, and aren't set up to do so in prime.
in riverhaven the following are supposed to give tasks: fara <furmonger>,anthehemor <whatever his name is, the gemshop guy>,crow <thieves only>,maisie,mo<barb GL>,ievia<ranger littlefolks trainer>,jelna<cleric gl>,willowbrook <trader gl>, and the paladin guild littlefolks guy in the noble inn.
i tested all of them with some of my TF characters except crow in haven in TF, cause i didn't have my thief in the neighborhood. And just had the negative results with Mo and Annael.

Every single Riverhaven and Crossing GL in Prime gives tasks.
In Riverhaven, other than the thief den there is no special hindrance to reaching any of them.
In Crossing, the guilds that have restrictive mechanics surrounding the GLs are: Traders, Thieves, and Clerics. Of those, the restrictions for Traders (escorted by traders) and Clerics (entering the appropriate command twice) can be easily gotten around. No special hindrance to reaching any of the others (including Kssarh and his formerly MM-only observatory).

Kill Boss Task Givers in Crossings? on 10/15/2007 04:59 PM CDT
I'd recalled during the last discussion on the matter, that nobody gave Kill Boss Tasks in the Crossings. Is that still the case? If so, would it be possible to have a giver of Kill Boss Tasks added to the Crossings? Thank you!

It seems to me that Agonar could give an occasional task like that. Or perhaps even the war veteran, who still daydreams of his days as a soldier.
